Chrysler 8.25, is there a difference?
I have a 98 XJ sport with a worn D35. I have read that the '97-'01 8.25 will bolt right up, but what about a '95? any difference I should know of before I make the purchase and install? Thanks.

yes the axle will bolt right in....
the only difference in the years is spline count on the rear axle shaft.. i believe the 96 xj and newer 8.25's run a 29 spline shaft and the older years run a 27 spline.

the 95 C8.25 will do you just fine

Get the u-bolts and plates with it. It's easy.

I'm doing the same JY search to replace the 27 spline 8.25 in my '93 with a 29 spline. I have two reasons: trying to find 3.55 or 3.73 gear ratio (mines got 3.07) and get the 29 spline axle along with it.
Cruiser's advice on here is always excellent, but I think he'd agree - get the plates, but buy new u-bolts. They can stretch over time and you'll feel much better safer having new ones holding it up there.
Be aware too that '96 was a "transition" year on the axle upgrade to 29 spline. It looks like some of the early '96 run used what was left of the 27 spline axles. So check that if you come across one. '97 and up you're good to go.

Always new U-bolts. Most are designed to stretch. At any rate they're too important to cheap out on - and new ones are cheap at that.
For reference the C8.25 is also found under the KJ and KK Liberties. They're coil sprung so not a bolt-on, but if you have a 27-spline you can upgrade it with the shafts, differential, and disc brakes if you are so inclined.

I've reused my RE u bolts on my 35 with blocks, 44 with blocks, 44 with straight packs and swapped them into another xj and haven't had any issues lol. Not good advice but if your short on change like myself, you shouldn't have an issue reusing them.

its basically a torque to yield design. the stretch gives them better clamping force, but are a one time only use. just like certain cylinder head bolts in certain engines. one time use only. not recomended for reuse ever. new ones from RE run maybe 45 dollars

Here is a breakout of the chrysler 8.25. Should help your search in finding one. You really want the latter model 8.25 because it is nearly as strong as a Dana 44. Just FYI.
1991 – 1996 : Chrysler 8.25", c-clip, non-ABS, 27-spline axleshafts.
Late 1996 – 2001 : Chrysler 8.25", c-clip, non-ABS, 29-spline axleshafts.
