So I've been doing research on the Eaton superchargers and kits. I'm wanting to build a 4.7l stroker out of the stock 4.0l inline six. I have read some people say why go through the time and effort when you can just do a supercharger. Well my question is why not do both. After doing the bore for the re-build will the engine be strong enough for an m68 or m90? Do I have to use the eaton? I have no knowledge of superchargers or turbo systems. All I know is I don't want to blow up a motor after I do so much work to build it into a stroker and I'm curriois about this supercharger business.
Just a warning a blower on a daily driver the whine can get annoying at higher rpms,You will have to run higher octane fuel,And the front drive of the blower has gear oil in that you should change about every 50k in miles.

Actually there are ways to avoid running higher octane in regard to timing and whatnot. I'm currently adding a supercharger to my jeep and am surprised at the number of these threads now popping up.

Eaton m90, because I already have a stroker. Now for you with a stock engine, use the m62.

Oh ok, yeah. I have visited his site and sent him an email to ask more about it. He basically said it would be fine to put it on a 4.7 but he was in the boat for just go with the supercharger over 4.7 ,
I would leave it stock size pulley unless he builds the stroker for low compression and has a cam for a blower.But between the price of the blower kit and stroker kit you could do a ls swap on the jeep.
With a stroker you will need 6 bigger injectors and an ECU tune to make it run right/well. All said and done a stroker will cost you around $3k+ or more to do it right. I would only do this if you absolutely needed a rebuild otherwise I would use a stock JY engine.
The biggest problem is the poor flowing head, cam choices and valve spring choices. If the head flows poorly for a 4.0L, just how do you think it will flow for a 4.6L?
In the end it is cheaper and you will have more power if you just SC the stock 4.0L. If it blows you can replace it with a JY engine. No engine has 'blown up' do to my kit. Tuning and fueling is the key to longevity.
Here is some comparison numbers--
Some trends that I have noticed-
Stock 4.0L- 135rwhp/160-165rwtq (crank 190HP/225TQ)
4.0L+'All the bolt on's' +15rwhp/+15rwtq to 150rwhp/175rwtq (crank 210HP/240TQ)
4.6L Stroker- displacement+CR(+15%)+cam(+8%)+head work(+7%)--195rwhp/245rwtq (crank 260HP/ 328TQ)
5.0L Stroker- (+10% over 4.6L) 208rwhp/280rwtq
4.0L+BOOST 6pounds- 210rwhp/265-275rwtq (crank 300HP/375TQ)
Stroker4.6L+?BOOST 4pounds +25%--->244rwhp/306rwtq(estimate) 325HP/410TQ(crank estimate)
Stroker4.6L+?BOOST 6pounds +37%--->267rwhp/335rwtq(estimate) 355HP/450TQ(crank estimate)
There have bee some engine failures with building strokers. Check out jeepstrokers site.
