I'm thinking about doing this mod myself, but I have a quick question. Have any of you found a gain/loss in mpg? Veering away from the factory set up and only drawing cold air I am wondering if you get less mpg. thanks!

if anything you would get better MPGs with a colder air charge. As long as the intake tube you use is of sufficient size you will not see a decrease in MPGs.

You guys crack me up. It's in the cowl... I didn't snap any pictures after I installed it.
The RU-5111 isn't a 4.5" filter, it's a 3". However, it is 4.5" at the base and 3.5" at the top - OUTSIDE DIAMETERS

Well I've been driving around for s few days after I took off the cowl intake and I'm getting 18 mpg average. When I had the cowl intake connected I was getting 10-13 mpg. I'm still very confused, can someone help?
Did you reset the ecu? That might help some.

PHEW! lol. yeah i was referring to the filters LARGEST O.D. which would be the limiting factor to you having installed it INSIDE the 3" tube.
I have been getting between 15-17mpg city, running 33's. With the cowl.
This is a great mod. Little video of today testing out the cowl snorkel. Not a single drop of water in the airbox. Ran smooth as silk. Its not very deep but it does reach 36" in a few spots.
With the cowl snorkel I don't worry about drowning out anymore.
