This is a great mod. Little video of today testing out the cowl snorkel. Not a single drop of water in the airbox. Ran smooth as silk. Its not very deep but it does reach 36" in a few spots.

With the cowl snorkel I don't worry about drowning out anymore.

I've considered this but what about if water washes up over the hood and goes into the cowl vents? Won't it go right down into the air box? I'd want to run it much higher.

IN the video everything on the floor was floating. My feet got soaked. Almost got the seat wet.

IF you are planning on going over the dash and just enough to breath. Then yea, better go full on snorkel.

I carry a measuring stick with me. And I always test the water first. I can go 42 inches and not break a sweat.

And heavy rain and snow does not get to the filter. A splash over the hood will not do anything either. IF you do happen to get some in, it would have to fill the airbox completely up before it did anything.

I run the snorkel on the passenger side cowl because its covered. IT breaths through the drivers side. And the drivers side has a good size drain. so it would take quite a lot of water over the hood to get to my airbox.

yea i've had tidal waves come up over the cowl - no problem as long as you'e not submerging the cowl - the drains are sufficient for pretty much anything.

I did my cowl snorkel mod today. Cost me the price of a 3" hole saw and arbor about $20, and some 3" RV sewer drain pipe from Wal Mart $3.50.It wasn't until i got it all back together I realized...Oh yeah, I need to block off the other thing where the air comes into the air box lol

You made it look really simple and easy with the RV sewer hose.

Someone told me to plug off the PVC hole but everything that runs to the airbox factory needs to stay there and not be eliminated. I may plug the drain holes and the factory spot where the air intake was towards the front where it normally draws the air from but I'm not eliminating any hoses that run to the air box. Isn't that correct?

Correct. Some people plug the drains however I prefer having them. If water were to somehow make its way down the new cowl intake hose, Id want it to drain instead of sitting in the bottom of the airbox. Cut a hole in the airbox, cut a hole in the firewall and run the hose between the two holes. Then plug the stock air intake on the front of the box and your done. Leave everything else as it was.

Yea I plugged everything, and sealed around the mounting bolts. Then I poured water into the box and made certain there were no leaks. I also sealed completely the cowl snorkel. The ONLY way water is getting in is through the cowl.

So basically as long as water is not over my steering wheel I am good to go. And I don't ever intend on going over the steering wheel! LOL
