Question Horizontal steering wheel adjustment?

Hey,

has anyone ever tried and either succeeded or proven impossible moving the XJ steering wheel/column towards the dash around 3-4"?

I'm 6'4" and that's the biggest annoyance in the driving position - in the farthermost rear position of the seat the steering wheel is still too close to my belly for a comfortable drive.

Mine's a pre-interior-facelift '95 model if that makes a difference.

Default Big Boy seat brackets

The only way I have seen to make more room for driver is to extend the seat rails rearward. Either by cutting the vertical portion of stock brackets down the length and welding back together, which I have seen successfully done. Or buy/build add-on brackets that move the seat back. http://www.misch4x4.com/cherokee-xj-...-brackets.html

Bracket mounts to top of seat slider, then seat mounts to bracket. Should work regardless of how slider mounts to floorpan.

If you move the seat on the slider, yes, but if you move the seat on the floor, no.

I suppose relocating the seat would be the best backup option then - however, the distance from the seat to the pedals is OK as it is. I guess Jeep must have designed the Cherokee with a T-Rex in mind.
