Why do you want to touch the hood ? There not a lot of air flow so the air that the fan does move will be hot . If you want to cool your hood it needs insulation to keep most of the heat off it . that's why a lot of XJ's hood has paint that is cooked and the clear coat coming off .
So, your in Beirut, Lebanon? Isn't it normally hot there, lots of direct sun? Anyways things to think about & to consider.
- what color is the hood? Darker colors tend to be hotter than lighter colors.
- have you considered a hood liner, to mount under the hood? www.quadratec.com/products/912035_56.htm
- the following are things that will help the engine run cooler, which should help with a cooler hood.
1). High flow water pump. I use HESCO. www.hesco.us
2). High flow thermostat housing. I use HESCO. www.hesco.us
3). At the minimum, a 2 row radiator. I installed a 3 row, which a lot of people say it's not needed. I don't know....
4). Maybe an external transmission cooler???
5). You might have some success with "Water Wetter" it helps cut down on water surface tension.
6). Maybe add an additional electric cooling fan. You might have to upgrade the alternator with the extra load, but I doubt it.
Is the exhaust manifold doing anything crazy, like getting glowing red? Is the exhaust plugged. Is the exhaust exiting at the back of the Jeep, through the tailpipe?

I already have :
Aluminum radiator 2 raws + 50/50 coolant
OEM hood liner
Trans cooler
2nd external electric fan (on separate manual switch)
Hood vents
2" hood spacers
Exhaust is working fine not red
Engine runs cool even on heavy load temp gauge never bypass the middle but it's the underhood that is going extremely hot.
Hood paint is falling off (military green color).
Many of my friends have xjs but they don't have that problem as mine.

Line the hood with a heat barrier or line your hands with a heat barrier. If you dont have the stock under hood mat you could foil the whole thing. If it is present you could just do the small section around the hood latch.

I have to wrap everything under hood then . Arb compressor, solenoids, pcm.. They are all hot like hell
How about a ceramic surface on the exhaust manifold? I run hot as well, spacers, no vents, green hood (clear is gone too), cold air cowl intake, transmission cooler and 2 row radiator, no skid plate and getting ready to put on my JET HOT ceramic coated exh. man. I might do an external oil cooler. The summers here in Phoenix are brutal on my engine compartment temps. Website says applying this coating reduces heat by up to 56%. You have to send it to the company to get the coating but it has a lifetime warranty and doesn't corrode.

Looks good but can't do that in my country I'll try the heat isolator wrap. Half of my family lives in AZ Mesa it's really hot 🔥 there.
