Greetings All!
I'm new on this site and my search for gullwing windows and hatches for XJs landed me here. If you don't mind me jumping in on the conversation, I can contribute the following:
This guy made his own:
http://www.overland-rovers.com/side-...-step-by-step/
And I found these pictures on Pinterest:
https://i.pinimg.com/736x/a9/e4/37/a...ccessories.jpg
https://i.pinimg.com/736x/7a/10/5b/7...jeep-truck.jpg
The ones made by Front Runner are some seriously nice pieces of kit --too bad they don't offer them for the Cherokee. I don't supposed anyone has written to them and asked them about it...?
Cheers!

Really cool ideal. Some of the adhesives that they make would work fine. I have personally re-sized and drilled tempered glass before, but I would not trust anyone else to be patient enough to do it successfully.
Lexan / Polycarbonate is the the only way to go if you are replacing windows IMHO. Acrylic / Plexiglass is more brittle with less optical clarity.
I'm just thinking of the cost of building a prototype. Billet aluminum would probably land somewhere around $1200. for one side.
I think a beefy injection molded abs frame would work just fine. Any takers?

I like the idea, this access could be helpful though I don’t keep a whole lot of loose stuff in the back that I need to get to. Actually, lack of access to the cargo area is why I’m replacing my two door with a four door.
The glass is the stumbling block on this one. Make it easy, use aluminum sheet. 1/8” thick or so. Can’t see a whole lot out those windows anyway. Next trick is to find suitable hinges, which could be sourced from the cabinetry industry.
Photo from the Emu Wing website. Those are cabinet hinges. Also I see two gaskets. One on the pinch seam of the window hole, one on the “door”.

Honestly they don't even have to drill it anymore. Most mini vans and newer suvs that the rear windows pop open everything is glued to the glass. Here is the landcruiser ones i have seen http://emuwing.com.au/gallery/
I have a 2 dr. that I use for expedition/camping ... so not nearly as rough as wheeling. I think access via the windows would be great!

That's exactly what I was thinking. The guys in an auto glass shop could probably offer some good advice. It might even be that the glue used for mirrors would work.

Torque Hinges are becoming more common. Still need a latch but it would eliminate the gas struts. Was thinking about these for my hidden winch cover. http://www.usfutaba.com/Product-Rang...s/Torque-Hinge
Lots of companies are making them now so it will take some engineering to get the right ones.

I just wanted to do a short revival to this thread, as I found a manufacturer/designer out in the Netherlands of all places making gull wing window conversions for older 4x4s. He just announced recently that he would be doing an XJ Model soon. I offered to help him out with it but credibility is hard to translate! Grr. Would be so awesome to get those plans.

The sliding window with the guard would be nice for those who camp in their Jeeps. Just add a mesh screen to keep the bugs out.
