Gull Wing Windows Conversion?
I would bet this is possible, but has anyone from this community made a Gull Wing rear window conversion? This is commonly done on 4Runners, and came stock on Mercedes I think. Usually seen on Truck Camper Shells too.

I'm in. Where do we start? One thing I've always missed with my XJ vs my Bronco is a way to access cargo without having to open the hatch. This would be very convenient.

I have seen them for land cruisers metal and glass,The big problems will be a gasket that seals and it can't be plexi with out a ton of reinforcement to the window frame and middle of the plexi. The latches and hinges would be easy probably use oem ones from extd cab pickups little windows.

If we can figure out the parts needed, even if the glass needs to be custom cut, would love to sell this under THOR ( trailheadoffroad.com) so that it would be easy for everyone. I think I will try to acquire a spare window pretty soon here.

I think it is a great idea! But I'm curious about the tempered glass issue. Are these cut and drilled before they are tempered? I have never drilled glass but would think that tempered glass could be an issue when it comes to drilling holes?

I wonder if a yacht builder could locate or make a hatch that would fit our window hole. That one up top looks a lot like a boat hatch.

i had thought about doing this with plexi glass, but jsut never got around to it. I have also see the window removed, and a storage box put in its place, much like a leer topper tool box.

I have been trying to mod one of these on my xj trunk / rear window. Been looking to use the glass from a junk yard Blazer that had a trunk window that opened, but no solution to the rear wiper. Window was clearly a different size and so played with making a wood surround that fitted into the Cherokee opening, and then the blazer window butted up to this. Turned out to be a bit of a mess and not secure. So original window has gone back in and I am back to the drawing board.

Honestly they don't even have to drill it anymore. Most mini vans and newer suvs that the rear windows pop open everything is glued to the glass. Here is the landcruiser ones i have seen http://emuwing.com.au/gallery/
