Default Going Doorless Idea

So this is just any idea, but i was thinking..I'm going to do everything this guy did here: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/r...ite-up-408138/

But in stead of having a half bolt and cutting the hing like he did...could you leave the hing alone, cut the factory bolt out completely and them pick a bolt and nut from like Ace and blot it together that way?

Just an idea, tell me your guys thoughts on this..I wanna do it right the first time and not have saggy doors or mess up or anything like that

Sorry I'm just a little bit worried about it..haha

Thanks in advance
-Zack

Well I followed the same write up and I use bolts for door pins but my doors are really saggy. I did this about two summers ago and I have only taken the doors off like 10 times because of the wire hassle and lining the doors up. I can take the doors on and off by myself, its just the wiring; having to jam it back through the hole can suck somtimes. Heres some info on my experiences

- The upper door pin the drivers side has to go in from bottom - up, then held on with a nut because the metal of the door blocks the bolt from going in top to bottom. The nut once fell off and almost lost the door when getting back in the truck from picking up my g/f ... nice

- I tried using fatter bolts to create less sag, but the holes that are on the truck part are bigger then the door part. you follow? So I drilled the door holes out on the door part bigger to accept a fatter bolt... the doors still sag. (I think its because I didnt do the bottoms on each door but the bolt can get really tight in there and it can become more difficult to get out.

-The 3 torx bolts that are for the latch of the door constantly come lose, I lost one, over tightened the other two and cracked the metal of the door and I always have to lift the doors up when closing.

In the long run being 2 years later, I wish I didnt do this mod. Its my only car with a/c and I use it alot when im in the truck. I will prolly take the doors off sometime soon. The 84-96 cherokees have better success with the different door pins.

Goodluck with your choice, it is fun with the doors off but make sure this is what you wanna do.

Just my 0.02.

-Mike

Okay, I cut my speaker wires up front one was blown anyway and the rears are fine for me. The male female end is a good idea tho.

The saggy door problem for me is a **** off. I still gotta drill the door holes out on the bottom, especially the drivers side to accept a bigger bolt, to hopefully help the sag.

You should ask around to other peeps about doorless on the 97-01. I'm not trying to deffer you lol don't let some jerk off on the forums try and stop u ...(myself) I'm just saying my experience with this kinda sucked lol

I did mine about a month ago. A good trick is to drill out the body side hinges to accept a replacable bushing. I forgot the sizes but I can check tomorrow and post it. Just make sure you drill the holes straight. I have no door sag. And if they evr do start to sag, the bushings are only like a buck each.

97+ (like me) just cut the old pins out, and when you get the doors off, take a 3/8 drill bit and pull the bushings out of the jeep side hinge and drill the door side hinge to match. then get 4 3/8 bolts from your favorite hardware store, (make sure they fit snug but loose enough to get out easy) and then what i did, is i took a dremel, and cut a square of the inside door metal out. gives it room to drop the bolt right in instead of putting it in from the bottom and putting a nut on top. The wiring is a hassle, but oh well. Use a dremel to enlarge the hole on the INSIDE by the kick panel, and it will make it much easier. The wire boot sucks to put in there sometimes but just fiddle with her ans she'll be fine. I only take the doors off if theres a string of nice days as it takes like 20 min to put em back on. Doable alone but takes a while. My doors do not sag at all, take your time and do it right, and it will pay off. 84-96 hinges are fabulous, once the doors are removable it only takes like 5 min for both. *ill go take some pix in a min for you guys*
