My Dyna 35 pooped its pumpkin on my '99 XJ the day after Christmas 2021.
I just found a '98 XJ in the local P-n-P that has an 8.25.
I did a VIN search on the '98, it has the same gear ratio.
Looks like a fairly simple swap. I'm hoping the drive shaft is not damaged from their forklifting these vehicles around the yard.
Might have to order a new shaft if mine is too short. New U-Joints of course.
I have only a 3" lift on it. Once the swap is complete, I'll probably put 31s all around.
Just posting for commentary and to let y'all chime in as to any pitfalls I might encounter.

Im not sure why people say the driveshaft doesnt work.
the shaft from the 35 is same as 8.25 8.25 pinion is sliglty longer wich is a good thing on lifted xj
I guess if the jeep isnt lifted theres a chance the 35 driveshaft might be to long. But I dont think many swap 8.25 in stock jeeps

OK. So my XJ had ABS all around. Can I keep abs in the rear by just keeping old axles from the dyna?

hmm…looking around the forum it looks like dyna drive axles w/ tone ring won’t work in an 8.25. If that is not doable, can I still keep the abs in the front? Maybe? This is not my daily drive (mostly) but don’t want to butcher the thing.

All you’ll need is 8.25 u bolts. You won’t have ABS anymore. Pull the relay and fuses to get the light to go out.
Buy good u bolts. The bolts from the yard will be better than something you’ll find from a local parts store.

I’ll need to print an updated build sheet to leave in the glove compartment. I don’t plan to sell, but just good for FYI.
Looked into the 35 differential and found one cylinder-type bearing sitting in the bottom of it. but I don’t see any missing from the wheel bearings.

I think the Jeep Liberty had a 8.25 with ABS. Then you can do a rear disc brake conversion. You’ll probably need to do a little fabricating on the axle. I’m not sure how much wider / narrower the Liberty axle is.
Liberty axle is approx 1-7/8" wider .
The liberty uses a "tone ring" in the differential, sandwiched between the ring gear and the diff.

thanks for the recommendation. I think I’ll just stick with installing this 8.25 I got out of a ‘98 XJ and disable the abs. Maybe later if I have the time/money I’ll look into that mod.
