Dana 35 to 8.25 swap
Forgive me I have used the search but I am on my phone so it doesn't always go smooth. What all do I need to swap out my Dana 35 for a Chrysler 8.25 rear axle? I know I need ujoints but what else will I need before I can do this? This is my dd and I'm looking to get this done while off work for turkey day.

I did mine awhile back, from what i can remember it was a direct swap. you may have to play with your e-brake cables. i didnt use mine. The yoke should be the same, i ran 2 front driveshafts and that was only cause i had the SYE done. Im gonna do another one soon....just in case, be sure to get the same gear ratio

Are you lifted? stock DS? The 8.25 is slightly longer than the d35, which means slightly shorter DS. I'm not 100% if it matters for i did the swap while lifting. Ebrakes were simple, just had to mess with the adjuster and the axle vent/brake line block on the axle are different but very simple to figure out

Yes I'm stock for the moment but looking to build a lift from jy. I found a great deal on a 8.25 so I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. Thanks for the replys. My main concerns are the yoke and drive shaft.

I did this and it took me a day to do it. Your gona need new u bolts, a shorter drive shaft(or you can have yours shortend), new u joint straps, I would get new u joints at this time as well, and some friends to give moral, physical, and liquid support.
good luck and soak all of the bolts the day before in pb blaster or some kind of oil to make the swap go smooth.
You have breaks on the new axel already?

well if your lifted, the slightly longer C8.25 and slightly longer d35 shaft with be a plus, not sure of the actualy difference but either way its a plus lol! But even at stock height it shouldn't be an issue.

I personally will be using the D35 shaft with my c8.25 once I swap my 8.25 in.
I'm at 3" of lift but will be around 4" in the rear once my shackle relocation boxes are in..and I'm moving my axle back 3/4 of an inch to center it in the wheel wells..just personal preference on how is looks honestly. Doesn't need to be moved at all. Anyway knowing that I have the longer shaft and longer axle reassures me cause I'm scared that I'll pull the shaft out at full flex cause its damn close. I don't have vibes now and hoping I won't when its finished..maybe the extra length will help there..with all angles are correct of course.

I could never find that exact statistic but I did shorten my drive shaft by 5/8ths and that put it right where my stock shaft sat on my slip yoke. You should be more likley to need a longer shaft than a shorter one in your case. With that kind of lift I would go slip yoke eliminator and a front or custome drive shaft.

Like I said my only true worry is pulling my shaft out of the transfer case. Right now I can almost do it which is sketchy and I wanna push my axle back another 3/4" of an inch. Once I get the shackle relocation boxes on the height difference isn't a worry, its the flex that I'll gain from them. If I get any closer a SYE is going in, I already have a tom woods drive shaft from a buddy. If I can't pull the shaft and don't get vibes I'll leave it alone and upgrade elsewhere until I decided to go with more lift..

Axle Swap
I am new to the site and looking for advice. I have a 2001 and the Dana 35 is toast. I found a Chrysler 8.25 with the same gears. (3.55) Is it really an easy swap? I have no desire to sink money into the Dana 35. It is stock now but looking to put a 4.5" lift in the near future. Any help would be great.
Thank you,
Tim
