I have this thread saved for the future if I ever need it. I opted to just leave the vulcanized ones in, haven't heard one sound from the rear yet, which is surprising, considering I'm using a 5/16 bolt and the hole in the frame was widened for a 1/2 bolt from my previous setup. I also used grade 8 hardware, but choose fine thread for anywhere I can on the jeep.

 

Honestly, the Iron Rock Offroad front kit looks better IMO. Probably worth the extra $15

I still need to do the fronts, but of course my o2 sensor went out and I have some strange vibration up front that just started. Fix one thing 3 more break...

 

Those look high quality and a good price, but they change the shock eye mounting position by 90 degrees. I've read this can cause binding at full extenstion. Anyone have any info on this?

Actually, the IRO front BPEs keep the shock eye in the stock position, so I went with those. Also ordered the Rough Country rears from Morris for $25 shipped and they appear to do what is needed.

Update: Recieved the IRO front BPEs. Looks to be very good quality, but unfortunately it was shipped with incorrect/missing hardware. Ryan at IRO shipped replacements in a reasonable amount of time. Also recieved the RC rear BPEs, which look sufficient.

 

I know, old thread, but I finally treated my '89 to Bilsteins all around. I've got a 3" lift so I went for these:



Pushed out the bar pins and replaced with standard bushings to accommodate my BPEs. Anybody want 'em?



Clearcoated the shock bodies to help keep 'em new-looking longer.





The plan is to transfer the white body shocks from the Rusty's lift on the '89 to my free '96 daily driver. Should be an improvement.

 

mine never look that good, i drill the bushings to make it really easy to push out

 

i gave up bar pin removal. i will say now that the shocks have 20k miles on them they REALLY softened up with regard to body roll. the jeep had none when driving straight, now an uneven spot in the road makes me feel like bo duke riding through hazzard town square. i'm not sure what to make of it. quite disappointed honestly. the 3 yr old $18 gabriels did not let the jeep roll like that.

 

I have about 10K miles on mine - still feel really nice. I have seen good things about the durability of these, 50K miles shouldn't be out of the question.

You could remove one of the rear ones and check it outside the car to see how much dampening you get and see if they seem to be be bad
