front axle is going to need to be taken in and have it regeared with new ring and pinion and master install kit, that's not going to be cheap. What is the rear axle? how much is he asking?

for 150 you could probably get your hands on an 8.8 out of a v8 ford explorer with the disk brakes, and regear that and your current dana 30 how you want them.

sorry, just now realized you had a 2000, so you are trying to get away from that low pinion axle you're on now.

You have a C8.29 its a 29 spline and its good enough for 35"+ tires. Not worth swapping to a D44...
the front end needs to be rebuilt, so any HP would cost the same after bearings, gears ect, just initial difference in axle cost.
What year are the axles out of? The 8.25 96 and lower is a 27 spline, 97 + is 29 spline and stronger. you would need to swap gears into yours and be re-setup to keep the 29 spline(unless it is 29 spline) why not just buy the gears for yours? Your axle should not have any surprises of noise, worn parts ect...
I would offer him $40-50 for the front, and rebuild it, then re-gear the back to match. (if you really want 4.10's)
BUT- You have 3.55's and with 31's I wouldn't waste the money on re-gearing. or worrying about it yet, If you go to 33's the 4.10's wont be the ideal setup anymore anyway so why not wait and see how far it goes before dropping money in a sub par upgrade?
If I where you I would find a HP front D30 with 3.55's and run it. Use the money that would've go for gears into a locker.
just my $1.50 lol
