you can also find the common gears swaped into them in aftermarket ie. 4.10 ,4.56 or 4.88 ect

i read it somewhre i think the six ft was a standard, and the 7ft wasnt neccisarily a tow package (i beilive the six could have the d44 tow as well) but was meant for more payload..... now im looking for where i read this......i dont mean to argue i know you know your stuff

this wasnt where i initialy found it (couldnt find it at first so i just started looking through whaterver google spit out) but its the info i was looking for
what i was talking about is the metric ton package, that the d44 and 7ft box were a part of... this article (the mtric ton part) is almost exactly the same to what i was talking about early just worded differently.. in this article it only says the long bed waspart of the metric ton packge, the 7ft box is the long bed....
its the 6th andd 7th paragraph under powertrain in the article

Metric ton was longbed only. Metric ton got Dana 44 or AM20. Longbed does not equal Dana 44. Kinda like a mathematical equation.
