Default Axle from Commanche

I have a 98 Cherokee but recently parted out an 80's model Commanche. I kept the rear end as I think it is a Dana 44 and planned to prep it for the Cherokee if needed. Today I took a closer look and realized the spring mounts are on the bottom of the Commanche axle and on top of the Cherokee axle.

Has anyone ever done the work necessary to make it work? If so do you have some information on the specifics?

Thanks,

Buy perches and weld em to the top.

Make sure it's a 44 though before you waste time with it

Found some perches on line. Thanks for the input. I feel like an idiot for asking now that I see the fix. Just have never done it before. Thanks Again.

You must mean Wagoneer or J truck since the mj Comanchees have the same axles as the Xj cherokees and are a direct bolt on.

Actually they are not direct bolt in as the Comanche was spring under axle and the cherokee is spring over.

Nope, MJs are spring under and XJs are spring over. The MJ has a different perch width too iirc. Rear springs are even different between the XJ and MJ.

confirm its a d44 before yo do any work... because if its not a d44 its a d35 and not worth the time... the comanches with the 7ft box always had the d44 but all the rest just had one or the other thrown under them

I would recommend u-bolt eliminator brackets, vs standard leaf brackets.

7 foot box didn't guarantee a 44.

I meant the front axle, but you are correct about the rear sir.

What are the gears in this alleged D44. Do they match or are close to whats up front ? Just haven't seen anyone mention that yet, but i'm sure you already checked that out. right?

i read it somewhre i think the six ft was a standard, and the 7ft wasnt neccisarily a tow package (i beilive the six could have the d44 tow as well) but was meant for more payload..... now im looking for where i read this......i dont mean to argue i know you know your stuff
