Agreed. I have read many times they are pretty much a waste of money on our 4.0s. But buy it anyways and report back! Or you can consider an injector swap if you havnt already. I did so on mine and it runs better.

Park your XJ and buy a cheap Jap car off craigslist then.

Complete tune-up with plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. Clean the throttle body. Good as it gets.

Do Injectors, Intake, full exhaust, bored throttle body, and a 99+ intake manifold, upgraded ignition. or buy a cheap car. the price oall that could be the price of a cheap civic.

Agree. Pretty much any programmer is not worth the money using it on the 4.0. So much better off upgrading with hard parts like LongArmXJ said.

For the injectors check out: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f11/78...ectors-110829/

I bought a set 784's from him and he had them to me in about a week for $60.

Lots of great injectors. None affect mileage dramatically if even noticeably.

Just gonna toss it out there: The XJ is not gonna win hybrid of the year anytime soon. You want fuel efficiency? Buy a Honda beater (God, I hate Honda's).

I bought my XJ because I live in the mountains where we have rough snow in the winter, I do haul a little every now and then, I lightly offroad, and I simply love the Cherokee. I didn't buy it for it's astounding mpg rating. The best you're gonna get with your XJ that I have seen done is like 25 mpg, and thats with tires inflated to max, driving like 60 mph behind a truck, coasting whenever possible, etc. Stock if everything is in good condition, you can manage 20-21 mpg highway, and like 15 city.

Edit: Or you can go full hippie and degrade and humiliate your XJ buy doing this --------> http://evreport.com/2008/05/08/electric-jeep-cherokee/
