It was as easy as pulling the manifolds can be. I tore the old exhaust out and through it in the scrap bin, and ran the PS downpipe for a week or two until I was able to get to an exhaust shop. They made it work from there. It sounded like a john deere before the exhaust shop lol

This is after I put the single chamber muffler on

This is another video that sounds like mine did before the exhaust.

If I was trying to put a header on a renix jeep, yes I would. The thing I don't like about it is the original paint is not rated for high temps. I have heard about people installing them right away, and then all they smell is burnt paint. I had access to a sandblaster which made short work of that crap paint.

If you have a 91-98 XJ, get an APN header instead. It's stainless steel, and it bolts right up.

Looking for opinions on header wrap vs D.I.Y. ceramic coating. Trying to find a way to prolong the life of a APN header. Also thinking of adding a "Chinese finger trap" style flex section in the down pipe. What are y'all 's thoughts?

Being that the APN header is stainless steel, you could get away with wrapping it, though it is not necessary. The flex joint is going to extend the life of any header.

Precisely what I was going to say. The wrap is overkill. The flex joint is the way to go.

Thanks guys. At first I thought the wrap would help slow the cooling process so the header would cool more evenly and reduce the chance of cracks due to rapid temp changes. After reading on it for a while I came across mixed reviews. Think I'm just going to use the flex joint only as you guys suggested. I think with a flex joint and maybe a little exhaust pipe I can get rid of the factory "dent" in the down pipe as well as extend the life of my header.

Thanks again for the feedback, soon as I get my new cat. I'll have at it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the fectory dent. It's there for more clearance for the front driveshaft... if it visually bothers you being there, have at it, but I wouldn't worry about any performance issues from it... observe:

lol... Yeah buddy. If you keep up with Roadkill, it was actually Dulcich that inspired this experiment when he bashed the hell out of a $700 set of headers on the 440 install into the duster. Huge fan of all of those guys. Roadkill, Dirt Every Day, and Engine Masters is pretty much on a constant loop in my garage when I'm out there workin.

Thanks for the vid. I enjoy Freiburger too, he and Mike Finnegan make a great duo. I'd truly love to have a job like theirs. I've been keeping up with Finnegan since the late 90's when he was with Mini-truckin.

I never would have thought that collapsed pipes would have such a minimal impact on performance. I may still remove the dent when I put in the flex coupling, but not make it a priority.

Yeah I watch the heck out of roadkill.... having their job would be awesome, but definitely tiring. They pretty much do roadkill in their "free time".

OD, is MTOD worth it? I've been thinking about subscribing, but wanted to wait for feedback.
