To each their own... Flowmaster 50 might be a little louder than stock but is still considered mild. Or get one of the big magnaflows.

It's a personal preference. Don't call it retarded just because you don't like it. I personally like my exhaust loud because, quite frankly, when was the last time you saw a quiet car in any of the fast and furious movies? Or a quiet pulling truck? Or a quiet tractor? To me personally, loud= "look at me! I'm something special! I have more power!" I want to be noticed. My daily driver is not obnoxiously loud, but it's loud-er, with a good, healthy growl. So far, everyone likes it and no one has complained. You can bet my mud truck will definitely be roaring, though.
In closing, live and let live. Don't bash my choices and I won't bash yours.

I guess I don't associate a jeep cherokee with a movie of performance cars, huge horsepower pulling trucks, or a tractor, or any type of "performance" is where we differ. To each his own, you will hear my turbo 900hp v8 car coming but not my cherokee I take in the woods and through trails, I don't see a point other than making people not want you on their property or pissing people off around the few trails you can still wheel on.

@turtletrax....For most of us 4.0 has a good (not saying perfect) sound and we obviously like it more than slow songs, wife's/girlfriend's endless chatter and the simple silent stock exhaust. I don't have a 900hp turbo car, so I'll just settle with the good sound of 4.0 for a little longer. And hey, we get a free parking spot since we are retarded!

Lol being a window licker has its perks I guess. Jk I'm just messing around with everybody. I don't know what a straight 6 even sounds like opened up. I had a 350z that was a 6 banger but for some reason that car had the most unique, sweetest exhaust note ever. You can tell one of those cars by the sound without even seeing it. If you guys like it more power to ya

Idk about you guys, but I modded my exhaust for me. I don't give a **** what anyone thinks about it and that is how it should be.

Loud exhaust is functional though. I have never had a deer run out in front of me in any loudish vehicle. And people walking and biking hear me sooner.

It's about that time for newbies to start talking about removing their cats again.

Default New exhaust installed

Hey guys,

My 99 xj sat for about three or four years without being cranked. I installed a new Dynomax system and a fuel pump and she runs like a champ.

The deal is, I went back with stock plugs. This gave me a smoke screen from the exhaust for several minutes. Smelled like melting plastic. This same smoke screen did not exist using the platinum split fires that I replaced (also on new exhaust).

No stickers are on the vehicle so I only run it in the garage, idle speed and some slight revving occasionally. The smoke screen disappears in a couple of minutes of normal idle. This happens each time I start the jeep from cold. Only been turning it over for about three or four days.

ANY help would be extremely well received.

Mike

Any ideas?

New exhaust right? Usually the parts have an oil coating from the factory, it burns off after a while.

Cost wise I think a Thrush Turbo & a Glasspack would be the same price point...
Any opinions on which sound better on these 4.0 's?

I always loved the flowmaster 40 or 44 on my jeeps.

But the thrush welded muffler sounds almost identical to them.

With that said I would recommend a thrush welded.

I loved the Thrush on my old 81 Ford Courier. I did 2" all new from manifold back really sounded good. Thrush will probably be what I go with... We'll see.
These I-6 motors got a nice rumble to them! Hope to get muffler upgraded soon so the neighborhood knows when trouble is on its way! =P
