Shouldn't I be able to find on that will do that? Does anyone know what is the right combination? Is the xj pipe 2.25 ID or OD and the muffler is it 2.5 ID or OD? Thanks in advance.
Most pipe sizes are measured by OD.

Anyone have any experience with a thrush weld muffler? Parts guy says they sound just like flowmaster, but half the price.

I wanna know too! I'm been thinking of buying one myself. Heard they sound pretty good. And I can pick one up for 30 bucks. So not bad.

So my adapter would need to be ID to go over the pipe? Not sure why I am having so much trouble finding this.

Most Pep Boys and Autozones have the adapters on the shelf. Where did you get yours from?

From autozone. Spent a good hr with muffler in hand and wound up with a piece of 2.5 pipe to go between the muffler and adapter and the only option for the 2.25, which if I had a section of 2.25 pipe that would go inside of both the adapter and the existing exhaust pipe, I could use. No other options were available. I'll be going to orileys after work.

I just installed a rusty's exhaust on my 98 XJ. I opted for the flowmaster 40 series muffler and after install I was shocked to find it is super quiet. At idle it has a nice gargle but it is quite tolerable. Cruising around I can't hear it at all. Anyone else have this experience?

Is it piped out the back or turned down before axle?
