What is the difference in power of running a 2.5" exhaust vs. a 2.25". Reason I ask is the PO of my Jeep just had new muffler and tailpipe put on right before I bought it and I don't wanna shell out the money for a 2.5" tailpipe if it's not necessary. I mean I run 2.5" pipe on my Mustang that makes double the power of the Ol' Jeep.

Default Question??? Saltwater in muffler

Did some wheeling and fishing down in south padre and when I was going thru some water my clamp on the muffler poped and the muffler got a good amount of salt water in it. I pulled it and drained what I think is most of it. My question is do I wash it out with fresh water or is it ruined because water got in it period.

Ok, I'll keep it simple...Cat rattles and I have recently been smelling stronger exhaust fumes....my county does not do emissions testing so they won't tell me if it's bad or not (I don't even know if they would do that in the first place, but whatever)...but how much longer do you think I have until my cat absolutely NEEDS to be replaced?

EDIT:I would NEVER run without a cat converter, I was just saying how stupid my county is and that someone here could probably get away with it

Now, and do not talk about running without a cat, it's against forum rules.

Default Exhaust replacement need help!

Hey guys..

So I just bought a dynomax cast back system (150 with 75 $ rebate) and I went out to switch it out today after work..after getting all the clamps off i sprayed some pb blaster into the coupling pre muffler where it attaches to the cat tubing. Does any one have any tips for getting the muffler off of the cat pipe?

Any help is appreciated

I replaced my cat last weekend. On my 96, after detaching all the clamps and hangers from the cat back, I found the cat-downpipe connection to slide off really easy with a little tap on the cat, taping it towards the back of the jeep. Once that was loose and I had room to work, I was able to tap the cat off the muffler using a little more persuasion from the BFH. On mine, there are rivets that sort of key the cat to the downpipe and muffler and keep it from spinning, so if you have those, be sure to tap the cat straight off. Don’t try to spin it off, at least not until you clear the keys.

I know...that's why I said I would never run without a cat. (sorry if there was a misunderstanding, I put an edit on my original post) XJ is my DD, can't risk it lol

Peeled that down and most of it was already gone (the bottom of my cat WAS vented with small holes, absolutely stupid idea to me because it just corroded even worse...first thing I did when I got my XJ was start pulling the corroded shield away from the core because I thought that was causing the rattling)

Hey Mudfrog... what are the chances to get these exhausts in stainless? You have mufflers, clamps, and tips in SS but how about the pipes? And what about the mainifold to cat pipe...didn't see it on the site.
