Okay thanks I'll look into that, so do you like output guard dogs? I take it they are fairly cheap cause they are retreads versus a new set of mt/r's, who are DT8000 shocks made by? RE?

https://www.treadwright.com/p-71-265...dog-m-t-c.aspx So these should clear a 3.5" RE superride with no cuttin or should I go up to a 4-4.5" kit?

I had 255's with a 2in lift and I had to cut but u should be ok

I really like my Guard Dogs. I've never seen a bad review.

DT8000s are made by Doetsch. I purchased them from IRO

That will be a 32x10.5. 4-4.5 might be a better option. I BARELY clear 31s at full flex with my RE

Bumpstops are your friend....use them and your tires won't rub

I trimmed and ran 33s on a 3" lift, and I could've put on 35s. Like he said, you won't have problems if you bumpstop. What you need to consider is how much room will you have to flex.

Alrighty, yah im not too worried about not getting full flex, I really only use my jeep as a DD and muddin. So whats the best way to set up your bumpstops? Just find a pile of dirt and flex until the tires rub and go from there?

Basically. That, or jack up one tire at a time til it almost rubs. Measure, and bumpstop about .5-1" past your measurement.

If you have access to a fork lift that's a great way of doing it. Thats how I have always done it.

Hey guys, quick question for you wheel and tire guys.

I'm looking at picking up a set of the 5 spoke rubicon wheels from a wrangler and have 2 options immediately available both with ups and downs.

Option 1: Wheels off of a 2011 rubicon which is the 5x5 bolt pattern and the stock 255/75/r17 tires. This means I would need to run wheel adapters and push them out about 1.25''.

- These are cheaper and closer but it about evens out with the cost of the adapters.

Option 2: Wheels off of a 2005 wrangler rubicon with 285/75/r16 radial sxt mud terrains with about 50% tread left. These will bolt right up but have "huge" tires on them with less tread and I have to drive about 250 miles for them.

The real question: will I be able to run the bigger tires on a 4.5'' Rough Country lift (lift is planned out and ready to be purchased) and clear rubbing at full lock or will I need to space them?

The decision here will be based on whether or not the tires will rub at full lock; if they do then I'll just run the newer wheels and get adapters but I wanted the trusted opinion and experience of some fellow jeepers!

If I'm not mistaken the 2005 wheels with rub due to the stock backspacing and larger tire. So a wheel spacer would be needed for those as well. And you'd be close to having to trim your fenders as well to fit the 285s which are 33x11s pretty much. Idk what the other measures out to be. But sounds like you're worried about rubbing on your control arm.

both sets will work without spacing them out, although the JK wheels will need adapters as you said. The smaller 255/75R17 tires will not rub at full lock with that lift, especially with the adapters.

You will able to fit the 285/75R16s on 4.5" lift, but you'll need to trim a little bit out of the fenders, and space the wheels out a bit to keep them from rubbing, but it certainly can be done.

17" tires are also less expensive than 16" tires usually because you can get the LT sizes in 17", but not 16", and they are more common (wider selection).
