Depends on too many things. First off you have to trim to get 36s to fit. Your wheel wells don't grow magically when u lift ur vehicle. U need to bump stop. And u need to get better axles.

 

Idk if you could fit 36" on 3 or 4.5 but you could on 6.5" most likely with a lil trimming

 

I have a 99 cherokee sport, just ordered half doors for the summer. But at some point, I would like to get maybe a 3' lift? This is my first car and frequently ride rough terrain. Any help for the new guy? Also, I'm a little tight on money..And who actually does the lifting of your car? Thanks!

 

3' is pretty large :P but in all seriousness a 3" lift is good. It gives you more belly *clearance* height and more articulation if you disconnect the sway bars when off roading. Check out some sites and don't go with the cheapest lift you can get. Check out rubicon express lift kits and lean towards buying full leaf kits, not add a leaf. Also, if the kit does not cone with new shocks make sure you buy new shocks that go along with your lift height. As for lift kit companies I've heard bad things from rough country and skyjacker but have experience with neither. As for who does the work, you do unless you want to spend $$ on hiring someone. Sometimes if you live close to a member(s) on here they will help you out with your lift for a few beers in exchange. I hope this answered your question. I have a black diamond and it's pretty good no complaints and it's like 400 or 500 somthing full leafs and shocks (my I had to replace leafs and my dad wouldn't do aal)

Or you can do a jy lift wear you add leads from differant vehicles to your stock and jus find cheap springs and shocks

 

One of the mods on here (ktmracer) runs something like 37's and a 4" lift. If you have the know how it can be done

I have an 87 Body XJ and i have 4" of lift now and had to do some major cutting up the front to fit 33" Pro Comps....
to fit 36"s IMP 1 your gonna need a major OFFSET in your rims, 5" maybe....
2 your gonna need about 5 1/2" or 6" as well as some major cutting....
then if you wanna go with a longarm kit..... GOOD LUCK, i dont know.... lol
either way, you need to change your gears for that size tires.

There are XJs on here with 35s under a 3" lift. I had 33s under my 3. I'd say 36s could be done with 4.5" easily if you trim. That said, you would need bigger axles with better gearing, steering upgrade, and I don't know what else.

 

It's possible but there is no point. Even with the worlds biggest trim job any sort of full camber turn or flex would be impossible

 

totally disagree. Uptravel is nice, but nowhere near as important as downtravel, especially for rock crawling, and if you're bumpstopped correctly, you will have no problem flexing over anything. Flex isn't limited by the lift height, it's limited by the suspension components you choose to use.

case in point - ktmracer's old rig. I believe it was at 2.5" with 36s at this point

Oh yeah...and he obviously has trouble turning off camber too - try driving out of that with a tall rig

I know a couple guys that run 36's on 4" of lift. They run tube lower control arms for more clearance. Then they trim the fenders and extend the bumpstops, easy-peasy-lemon-squeezie! This setup is all for droop and works out really well off-road.
