I have a lifted ZJ, and I assume it still has stock ball joints. Lift is about 4.5" or so.

The upper ball joints need replaced. What determines if I need to get offset ball joints or standard ball joints?

Cool Decisions Made (For me!)

OK, and it looks like the footnote for the 10" wheels is they can rub when turning full lock in front because the tire turning arc grows so much. Anyone running 15x10" wheels have some input?

Well I had a bad vibration at higher speeds, thought I needed a driveline balance and as it turns out, the one time I let someone swap a U-joint (rear shaft front U), they did not center it correctly and the wobble has wasted my rear Xfer case bearing. Local shop has the Xfer case out to fix so I made a decision while it was apart:

Rough country SYE and pre-fabbed driveshaft w/ CV joint is on the way. Anyone running this setup that would like to comment on it? How much lift do you have?

Now that I have gone ahead and done this step up front, I'm going to order the RE 4.5" Super Flex kit and just do the whole thing right. Seems like the 4.5" kit has several nice upgrades over the 3.5" (upper and lower arms and tracbar incl).

I'm planning to go with 4.56 gears on 32's so the very steep grades I have to climb twice a day commuting to work are easy peasy for my XJ (several 13-17% grades).

I'm running stock wheels and 10.5 tires, they do rub at full lock. Just put my lift in and I herd an odd noise so I was a little worried then I remembered about the tires haha. Looks like I have spacers to order.

I did close to the same thing.

To lift you'll need S-10 or Dodge Dakota springs. (Cut off the eyes of those and use your stock top spring to keep the axle aligned). That'll get you around 3 inches. Then find a good add leaf or buy a longer shackle or a small 1.5 inch block. But try to avoid that. I'm not sure about what coil springs will work though. Mine are Rusty's Off road.

Other than that, longer shocks, rear break line, extend the front break lines, Sway bar disconnects (I'm not even running a sway bar), longer drive shaft or SYE (I'm running a longer one with no TC drop just a 4° shim).

All in all your shocks will be probably the most expensive thing. But you'll also want to look at adjustable lower control arms or long arm. As well as an SYE if within budget later on.

I used a Dodge Dakota rear break line that's 6" longer than stock then drill two 11/32 holes (I think) and straighten and relocate the front headline and bracket.

You can use tbird coils. They'll lift it about 4.5". But if you use the tbird coils you have to either fab a coil plate for the top of the coil or get the ones off the tbird and fabricate them to fit. I just fabbed the tbird ones. They work awesome. There a little stiff but alot cheaper then brand new.

Default Unknown lift?

Hey guys, Not to interrupt but i'm in need of help.

I bought my xj with a lift but I dont know what kind or how tall, I measured it next to a stock xj and the rocker height is 6in taller but it does not look like a 6 inch lift. any way to find out exactly what is in it or how tall it is?

and another question. With this mysterious lift it had smaller than stock tires with 15x10 wheels, which i thought was kind of weird since the fenders are chopped ALL the way up to almost the hood. So I put 35s on it and it rubs on full flex. I wanted to know if there was anyway to put a lift ontop of a lift such as blocks and spacers. I already have all the other necessary things to keep it safe such as adjustable trac bar, drop pitman arm ect. ect.

any help will be greatly appreciated, Thank you

Measure from the center of your wheel hub (center cap) to the bottom of your fender flares. stock should be right around 17" for the both front and back, I have a 3" lift and mine sits at 20"

If it's trimmed as much as you say, and the tires are 35" I would guess anywhere from 4-5" of lift

As for more lift, you can do a coil spring spacer, and if you don't already have one, an extended shackle in the rear end. This can get you up to 2" more lift, and if you need to level it out, this is a good way to do it.

Welcome to the forum best of luck to you with your investigation!
