And i'd recommend a better tire than those Nittos. They wear extremely fast - there are better options if you actually take your truck offroad.

And why adapters? If you're getting new wheels get them with the correct backspacing to work without spacers.
The Jeep is for my daughter, so form over function is the general rule at this stage. It will definitely see trail time, but nothing too crazy. As she/we gain experience and courage with offroading, we'll likely get another set of more practical wheels/tires for strictly that purpose. Good word on the Nitto tires though. Hmmm. She likes the aggressive sidewall look of that tire. Suggestions? The M/T MTZ's are nice.

The adapters are to go from 5x4.5 to 5x5, and to get a slightly wider stance. If I'm reading the details right, the Pro Comp rim has a 4" backspace, so some width will be gained there as well. Should I be concerned with added stress by less backspace and adapters/spacers?

why would you want to go to 5x5? Doesn't make any sense unless you're trying to use a certain OEM wheel - ordering aftermarket you can get whatever bolt pattern you want.

The adapters will be at LEAST 3/4" thick - probably more like 1.5". Add another 1.25" from the backspacing difference of the wheels and you will be out almost 3" over stock backspacing. That's way too much - you'll burn though wheel bearings very quickly.

Stock backspacing is 5.25"
I wouldn't run less than 3.75" of backspacing total.

Another point - spacers/adapters require diligent maintenance to be safe - the wheels need to be taken off once a month or so and the torque re-checked.

I recommend a 15x8 wheel for that tire size, 5x4.5 to fit the stock hubs, and 3.75" backspacing. The wheels you're looking at come in that configuration.

She's young and likes the look of the larger wheel and smaller sidewall. Me being a pro-touring/resto-mod guy, I truthfully like it too. Her young back can take the harsher ride around town.

What you said about the bearings makes sense. Now I'm bumming because that's the rim we set our hearts on.

They make the same wheel in a 16x8 with 5x4.5. The backspacing is still 4", but at least we ditch the spacers.

It looks like those wheels are actually 4.75" BS, and the spacers are only 1.25". That's effectively 3.5" of BS total - you could make that work. There are other matte black 17x9 wheel options though that have a 5x4.5 bolt pattern, just not in that line.

I cannot stress enough though that if you use adapters - you need to check the torque on them often, and never let anyone use an impact wrench to put the spacers or the wheels on - just a torque wrench. Make sure she knows this too.

I was told I don't need all that for a 4.5" lift.

skip 16s - the tires are crazy expensive metric sizes

You're right. I was going by what National Tire & Wheel's little grid said under the wheel description. The "Backside" column says 4. When I go to Pro Comp's website, it says "Backspace = 4.75".

Based on what you said regarding the spacers, I'm thinking the 16x8 wheels are the way to go.

Anyone have thoughts on wear comparison between MTZ and Trail Grapplers? Close....semi-close.....not even in the same ballpark?

The MTZ comes in a 265X75R16, and Trail Grappler in a 285X70R16. Looks like price is going be in the $275~300/ea range any way I go.

X2 on this. Your going to save alot of headache by going 5x4.5 15x8 with 3.75 backspace.

I got my wheels (same size) for 44 bucks each and they have the proper backspace. You really don't want to use spacers unless you really need to. From a mechanical standpoint and money spending standpoint lol. You can get wheels with proper backspace for less than 4 spacers cost...

I was told I don't need all of that for a 4.5".

Okay, sorry to keep beating the 17" dead horse, but what about Black Rock's Series 997 Type 8 Steel Wheel? Or Pro Comp's 52 Series?

That really sucks. Hopefully I don't have to spend much on that.
So I can't use any of the components for my 3 inch lift kit?
