Why stay away from hack and taps?, Have you had bad experience with H&T? Have you seen one fail in person?

because my sye came with a hd main shaft, it's a lot easier to mess up a hack n tap, I've heard about the output shaft bending from rear axle drooping (heard not seen), and I just feel like it's the more right way to go. It's personal preference mostly.

In person? No.
Pictures from a close friend? Yes.

Full SYEs are stronger than Hack n Taps. Not saying they're bad or breaking often, but a full SYE is a better choice. But for a 242 you don't have too much choice for an SYE, they are made but expensive.

Yeah I know a Full SYE is stronger then a H&T and is better, no disagreement there.. And like you said not to many options out there for the 242. I went with the H&T on my 242 cause I couldn't find a full SYE.. Now Tom woods has A full SYE for the 242 but way expensive. When and if my IRO H&T gives out(knock on wood) I think I will go with the Tom Woods SYE.

So on your friends H&T what was the point of failure
Did the shaft split and crack, or plain old snap off at the yoke? I would love to see pics. Im just curious where the failure started..

Today is the big day.. Ill be ordering my Rusty's advanced 3" lift kit for my '89. It comes with UCA's, LCA's, extended front and rear brake lines, and a track bar. Plus the normal lifting components (full leaf pack, coils, shocks). Adding a transfer case drop kit also. Am I missing absolutely anything to be able to run 31" tires? I feel like this covers it all. But what I've found is that it's a case by case thing. Any opinions?

might need to trim a little, need aftermarket rims with more backspacing to turn and not rub the control arm, and I'd suggest an sye because transfer case drops cause more problems than they "fix".

What I've read is that these control arms that come with it are bent to prevent them rubbing. Or are all aftermarket control arms bent lol? Alright ill check out an sye and do some more research on it.

Bent control arms are usually bent to allow more axle droop before the LCA hits the shock mounting plate. The roundness of the LCA tubes helps prevent tread blocks from getting locked against them, but the tires will still rub the arms.

Congrats! I recently installed this same lift on my '89. If you're installing it yourself I'd be happy to provide some pointers, if you like.

I don't have any install pics, but I can send you some photos of the control arms installed, as it wasn't 100% clear (to me) in the instructions as to which side is "up". Otherwise the install instructions were good. I had never installed a lift prior to this one and I completed it without a helper within a day, though I was in some pain at the end of that day Also, what control arm options are you choosing, and are you getting Rusty's sway bar disconnects?
