I've been looking at picking up a cherokee sport for some time now, found one yesterday and have a question before I pull the trigger.
The jeep is a 98' with 272kms on the clock and a 3" pro comp lift. I didnt break out the tape measure yesterday when I was looking at it but the front end sits significantly higher than the rear and I'm wondering why, and if it's a leveling issue or an actual mechanical issue with the struts, leaf springs etc?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
They probably used an Add A Leaf type lift in the rear because it's cheaper. That's very common, and a pair of new leaf springs will fix you right up.
I finally had time today to install my lift, well the front anyways, I've read online that the stock XJ ride height is 17.5" in the front and 17.0" in the rear. I have a stock 1996 XJ SE which somehow measure 18.5" in the front when measured from the bottom of the stock fender trim to the center of the hub and 18" in the rear when measured the same way. The front coils looked stock, the rear leaves might be aftermarket I think the PO towed a lot. I installed some OME 2934's which are coils for a V8 ZJ after the install I measured 21" on both sides in the front.
My question is would you consider this 3.5" of lift or is it only 2.5" of lift since before the lift my XJ measured 18.5"? I am about to install some OME CS033RA's in the rear which should put me somewhere around 4.0-4.5" in the rear and I'm trying to figure out which size coil spacers to order.
Before lift
After lift

Stock should be 17.0" front and 17.5" rear. XJs were raked from the factory. Sounds like the previous owner put a small lift on, which sagged.
As far as I can tell from the Old Man Emu application guide, the 2394s yield about 1" lift on a V8 ZJ. So I figure roughly 2.5" on an XJ. Sounds like you got 3".

I would look hard at the mechanical elements prior to worrying about sag. Look at the motor, transmission, driveline and inspect for rust. Ask the seller about service and what they've done recently. It's really a big clue when someone says, "hey, it's got a new water pump, thermostat and clutch fan".
As far as the lift. Couple of good points above, sometimes people want to save money and do an add a leaf, but the existing springs are shot. So all they do is get back to normal or a little lift.
Does anyone know the largest sized tire that will fit on a stock XJ rim? NOT the largest tires that will fit on a stock XJ. I tried doing a Google search and all I got was hits telling me what size tires fit on an unlifted XJ. I need to know how big of a tire I can safely put on a stock steel rim. Thanks
Ok so I finally bought my 4.5 inch Rubicon Express lift. Now it is time to get the SYE and shocks. Right now I can afford the RE twin tubes, I have not been able to find any reviews on these. I know twin tubes are generally a lower quality shock, but how do they honestly ride on the road? If they are not any good, I am going to wait and get some bilsteins or the RE mono tubes.
i decided on the mono tubes after watching this video.
