I bet you could haggle with him too. Seems like many people say he's open to offers. Could ask for them to not be painted and get a little bit off.
Hi All,
I just bought my xj, but I've been restoring old BMWs for years so I'm a pretty good mechanic. I'm a little baffled by an issue with my "new" 2001 xj sport, though. When I drove it home, the ride was very bouncy. I expected that, but when I hit a bump, the Jeep would keep bouncing for a looooong time after as it ran down the road. When I got home and bounced the front end up and down, the shocks seemed to have zero damping left, so I replaced them with Monroe gas matics, which are supposed to be OEM equivalent. When I bounce the front end, it still keeps bouncing when I let go of the bumper. Is this normal with these Jeeps?
The Jeep is totally stock except I discovered it has 2" spring spacers in the front and lift shackles in the back which look like 2" also. The rear leafs are new. Could the 2" lift be too much for the OEM-level shocks? Or should I just get used to the way it rides? It will be used 100% on pavement.
Thanks for any help for this noob.

Yep. Your shocks are 2" too short, the valving is incorrect for how the suspension is set. If you want a reeeaaally nice ride, Old Man Emu has shocks for a 2" lift that are apparently amazing.

The stock-length shocks should survive at that height, but you're likely maxing out the travel on the inside wheel if you take a hard turn. If possible, I would return or exchange those shocks.

Working on DW, think I've figured problem. Track bar issue, I think.
But, have seen mention it's partly do to the design, seen mentioned as "Y" connection/design.
Is there something better? Would it work if son gets ZJ tie rods?

ZJ steering is still the y design. Only difference will be that the ZJ tie rod is stronger. Are you lifted?

Yeah the listing that I posted a few lines up has the "Make Offer" feature on it. So that might be a valid option. Good idea man, thanks!

Knew that about ZJ rod, why I mentioned it.
if i decide to put on the rubicon express 3.5" lift would i most likely need to install a sye? ive read that chart and it says its recommended. im guessing ill find out after i install the lift? ive aslo decided to take on this lift myself with zero tools and zero experience. im just trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Would be better off with a SYE.
Will also need a full set of metric wrenches and sockets, SAE wrenches and sockets, Torx bits, breaker bar, PB Blaster, jack stands, knowledge and knowhow..
thanks not sure what im going to do. i had a shop quote me for 500-600 for labor. 700 for the lift w/o shocks. seems a bit pricey considering ive seen the lift sell for cheaper online. i figured id do it myself save some money and buy some tools for the future and gain some knowledge about my jeep. the problem is i dont really know what im doing. they guy also said i didnt need a sye just a transfer drop case i think.
Hi all: Trying to budget build my '00 Ltd. Bought springs, track bar, blah blah from a guy who claimed they came off a jeep with 3" lift. Before I put any effort into refurbishing the leafs, is there a way to guestimate the lift?
Set upside down there is 8 3/4" distance between the pavement and underside of the pack, so that is the arch including the mounts. The coils are about 20" high, 10 coils, and marked "CSP61-3". I saw some posts here about coils, but not much about leafs. When you discuss "arch" exactly how is that measurement taken?
Thanks much to anyone who can help.
