I just got a 99' cherokee. First car woot! I'm looking to do a few things but am on a fairly limited budget.

Things I want:
4.5" lift - RE ~ 1000
33 inch tires ~ 225-250 a piece
new wheels ~ something cheap
new shocks ~ 80 a piece
bushwacker flats ~ 500

That right there is about 3 grand on the high end.

I don't want to sacrifice quality for cheaper parts, but is there a way to get cheaper parts? What would you guys recommend?

my jeep is my first car too and I was on a tight budget too, just keep an eye on Craigslist and every now and then somethin nice will come up, I got my RE 3.5" kit with full leaf packs in good condition for $150 and I got 33 BFG km2s with around 75% tread on cragar wheels for 300$ so just be patient and you'll probably find most of whatcha need and more haha

Are they trucks?

Ya know our Cherokees are some of the biggest piece of s**t on the road so acting pretentious about them is kind of silly.

Like zumer said, you could finish up your list for far less if you go through craigslist/other local for sale sites. My GFs 99 2door has less than 3000 into it (including price of Jeep) with about 5"s of lift and 33" super swampers. Very capable and she drives it everyday

Your unibody SUV is much closer to a car than a truck

Doesn't Cali classify the AMC generation jeeps as station wagons?

A car is efficient and economical, a Jeep is the opposite. But it sure is fun..

Default Disk brakes

Is a rear disk conversion worth the approx $200 it costs?
Does it make much difference in stopping performance?

I run 31"s, daily driver, weighted with sliders, skids, full roof rack.

What I do not like about disks is they still have a drum brake inside the rotor for the e-brake.
My drums get sand in them. With disks I'm guessing that the e-brake portion of the rotor is protected from sand/debris from entering, by the backing plate?
