Any idea if this is something I can do on a jack and stands (harbor freight 3 ton think jack stands are about 18 inches high and jack is about 25)? My shop charges $20 an hour and $50 overnight (which I always end up needing.)
Also some info/diagram/picture/how-to link would help.

A floor jack with wheels, under the pumpkin will allow the axle to shift. Provided the suspension is mostly unloaded with jackstands on framerails behind control arm mounts. Use solid wood blocks that will be stable, under the jackstands if more height is needed.
With 'most' of the load removed from front suspension, the front axle can be shifted on the jack with caster wheels. Otherwise, reinstall front wheels and let them make contact with ground while keeping the suspension mostly unloaded on the jackstands. Now front wheel can be used as a lever, rotate wheel fore or aft, axle tube will also rotate. Chock wheel when in position to install bolt. Same for other side.
It is Important that the suspension be mostly unloaded when doing this! Otherwise you are fighting the coil springs wanting to rotate the axle underneath the jeep. Chocking the wheels is also an important step.
When i did my CAs, i had the jeep on the ground and did one side at a time so i can't vouge if it'll work and how easy jack stands Will be. I have an supermarket bumper so i wrapped one side of come along onto the shackle mount and the other around the axle and cranked it forward until the arm just went into place.

There are a few ways to do this. A ratchet strap works OK but not for my application with skid plates on lower Control Arm mounts. I have to remove both lower CA bolts and roll the axle forward to get the arms to drop or reinstall.

I don't know if this has been asked before,
but what really is the difference between the RC and RE 4.5'' short arms that makes
for a $500,- price difference ?
I looked at what was all included in both kits and the contents look very similar
except for RE having shackles and bumpstop extension kits.
