So I just installed Rusty's HD tie rod. Looks nice, definitely a nice upgrade from stock. Although the nuts are/seem tight, the rod itself spins.. What does this rank on a scale of 1-10, 10 being dangerous lol.

Also, my hack n tap seal appears to have little dry rot looking cracks along it, and I'm leaking oil. Thoughts?

Cheers

If you spin it either way, it adjusts the tires. I don't believe it does it by itself, although I can check. I contacted Rusty's to see what they have to say, and one of my buddies said that it shouldn't spin, and only does "cause it's Rusty's".

Take a picture of it. If it just rotates with the tre's slightly back and forth that's fine. But if it is rotating by itself, yikes.

I doubt this will help, but this is the only pic of it.

One part of it rubbed against my diff guard, so there's a spot to check if it moves while driving. When I was driving home, at certain points when accelerating/flooring it, I'd feel a vibration type feeling or something was hitting as it spun, underneath the drivers side. I also have a slightly unbalanced driveshaft with my hack n tap (which is actually leaking too at the moment. Fun, right? lol).

are there jamb nuts on the tie rod? cause that should not be able to freely spin by hand. you would never be able to keep it aligned.

I checked this morning and its not that easy to spin. Its not like you can rub your finger on it and it spins. You needs to grip it and its a little tough to turn.

I'm lost on how much you are saying you can turn this. Where are you at in Chicago? If you're close by I'd say swing by my family's shop and I'll check it out for you, but then again if it is turning that easily I wouldn't want to tell you to drive it.

Could the nuts not be tight enough?

Thanks man, I'll let you know if I end up going.

I tried recording a video earlier, but as soon as I recorded, I realized it's hard to see the actual amount it spins.

Here it is anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_lgT...ature=youtu.be

If the tre's rotate with it then it's fine. Let me know if you ever run up there because I'll try to be there. Our shop is a full service oil/lube station but we are always working on something different.
