The first time that happened was a few months after we got our Cherokee my father in law planed to go to a beach about an hour and a half from our house on the southwest coast of louisiana. The Saturday morning we planned for I was running a little late. Just before my nephew and I left my father in law called me and said can you bring something to pull me out. He got stuck going on to the beach (he has a 06 gmc 3/4 ton 2wd w/ the dura max). I laughed and told my nephew to go grab the longest strap they had. He asked me "why"? I said Mitch got stuck and needs a strap to pull him out, he laughed and said you can't pull him out. I look at my nephew and laughed and said I'm sure in the h*** gonna try. We got there and he was already fishing. I pulled around in front of him and we hooked up the strap and another guy there laughed and said let me get my truck and pull him out I was thinking you had something bigger. When he got back he said who the h*** pulled you out. I looked at him and laughed and said "I DID WITH
MY 2WD CHEROKEE". My nephew and father in law laughed, he got mad and jumped in his 4x4 and sped off. I wish I had pics of it.
The second time I had the family out on my aunts property on a 4 wheeler trail. After several sharp close turns we came up to a small gully. My wife looked at me and said we cant go threw that how the h*** you going to turn around. I laughed and said we ain't. My kids went nuts screaming lets do it( my kids know I don't back down from a challenge). I looked at my wife and said everybody put your setbelts on. She looked at me an said oh h*** no. We took off, mud flying from wide street tires kids screaming in laughter and my wife cussing a blue streak, we got to the other side and I said when we get to the end of the trail well turn around and do it again. My wife looked at me and said let's do it. Lol

The gvwr is NOT what your vehicle actually weighs. Not even close. My 99 XJ is about 3300 lbs.
"The gross vehicle weight rating (also gross vehicle mass, GVWR, GVM) is the maximum operating weight/mass of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer[1] including the vehicle's chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and cargo but excluding that of any trailers.[2]"

I've been told I cant make it to the end of a trail with out body damage and 5+ in of lift on 35's in an xj. I went up the trail with a 3" lift 31's and a rear locker with no body damage I also posted pics to make the guy eat crow. After I proved him wrong and called him out he no longer post on the local forum

about a week ago i was mudding with some buddies, one has a Wrongler on 31s, one has a F250 on 35's, one in a XJ with 33s, and one in a late 80's yota with 38s. And here i am in my stock 2wd xj, with street tires, locked rear, and shot leaf springs. and i went through every hole they did and had to pull out the wrongler once and the yota once. me and the other guy in the XJ were the only ones that didnt get stuck.

so far my XJ has went everywhere I have pointed it with very little complaint. The trail at Land Between the Lakes that everyone says is the hardest that everyone supposedly gets stuck on and there is no way a jeep cherokee would make it down, my buddy and I have both made it down with no problems (well, he ripped the airdam off his 99 Yukon on 32's). I went down this trail bone stock with nothing but a set of 235/75's just as easy as I did with 3" lift and 33's. That was trail 308 for anyone who knows LBL.
I also crossed the creek beside my house. very little water, but the banks are about 6 foot tall and fairly steep, at least 55 degrees. Went straight in, straight out, turned around, and came back. Buddy in the Yukon couldn't even get down the bank because it got high centered AND his bumper hit the creek bottom. He then said I wasn't going to be able to pull him out and all it took was a little jerk and then easy on the gas.
There's a local mudhole that the teenagers have deemed "impossible" that I went through in 2wd. I know for a fact that a late 90's ram 2500 with a cummins and 35's got buried in it, as did a mid 90's chevy 2500 on 35's and a few other chevys on 33-38" tires...
This little XJ has surprised me as well as anyone who has seen it offroad...

and as for pulling stuff with the XJ, I pull stuff all the time with it. even with the 33's I have no trouble pulling 5000+ pounds either with a chain or on a trailer. Problem for me is pulling something with it using a towbar. Pulled my buddies Yukon the other day (he blew the motor up) and the towbar pushed me off the road, even with him using his breaks to help slow me down and also steering so that the towbar wasn't having to exert as much force and try turning his wheels itself. Pulled in a parking lot after managing to get back on the road and going straight after being pushed sideways and completely into a 2 foot deep ditch (both my XJ and his Yukon), only way I saved it was grabbing a handful of the 4wd lever and holding the go pedal on the floor... All this happened at 10 mph. Hooked up a chain and just flat towed it and couldn't even tell it was back there.
Last February my buddy and I went to climb Mt. Elbert (2nd tallest mountain in Continental US). While driving up the snow covered trail to the trailhead, we ran into a TJ Rubicon on 35s. You could see where he had attempted to drive up the next hill but didn't make it. We stopped at their parking spot at asked how much further to the trail head
He replied, "About two miles but you won't make it up that hill in that." (I was sitting on 2" w/ GY Wrangler 235/75)
I said "No hurt in trying." And proceeded to gun it and climbed over the hill and around the corner. Got stuck after about 1/2 mile. Aired down and drove another 1 mile before coming to hill we couldn't make it over.
My buddy and I started strapping on our snowshoes and prepping for the climb when the two guys from the TJ walked up.
"What have you done to that thing?" He asked.
"Just a lift and these cheap Walmart tires" I replied
His friend chimed in "His little Jeep went way further than yours, you should have bought one like that."
Winning
