I will probably be doing the side center console mount for my Cobra 29LX. It's a little large for anywhere else IMO. Anyone have some insight on a decent antenna and mounting location for a 94 xj? Antenna that came with my CB is crap. :P

I had to angle it ever so slightly to the drivers side for proper viewing, and the mic cord hangs in front of the mirror, but believe it or not you get use to it being there after a bit.
With it mounted up high it is out of the way and not obstructing anything. Also there is no need for an aux speaker since the downward firing speaker isn't blocked by anything.
Now if I could only find a good spot to mount my PA horn that isn't obstructed

If you can't mount the antenna in the center of the roof the next best place is to mount it on a front fender (inside bracket between hood and fender) and use the hood for a ground plane. That is if your using a fiberglass antenna it's the second largest ground plane area from the base of the antenna.
It is also very easy to connect and run the coax to radio using a grommet in the firewall to do so.

I mounted my 29 between the sun visors. I had read that it wouldn't fit there, but it went in no problem.

I'm going to give the mount from the fellow mentioned on here a try. I don't want use the roof, due to planning on using my cargo rails (a lot of camping in the summer). A front fender mount sounds ideal.

There is a support under the headliner that a console would mount to. I pulled the headliner marked where I wanted the CB and used a couple of self tapping screws. Once I had the holes in the support I stuck a drill bit in the holes and poked the holes through the head liner when I put it back up.
I ran the power wires up behind the PS A-pillar and under the head liner. The coax is run from the back under the headliner.
With it being mounted high up it actually is fairly well hidden by the blue tint of the windshield and the mirror. My PA wire comes in through the hood release grommet and up behind the DS A-pillar.

Nice man, thanks for the input. I have to remove my headliner anyways, trashed, while I've got my interior all out (floor pans), so I may just mount it up tonight. Have to get myself a new PA.

No, I don't lick fish.
I did have it installed in the typical location on the side of the center console. I was tired of seeing it there and my kids messing with the gain on the power mic every they sat there PLUS I was getting flashed every time the sun hit that metal face plate just right.
So, over the mirror it went.
I took down the keyless entry b.s. that never worked to begin with - nor was I supplied with the keyless remote for it - nor did I care... SO, I deep-sixed that thing. But before I did, I used it as a template to cut a piece of steel plate and use it as a cap for the hole in the headliner. Actually works quite well to sandwich the radio bracket between itself and the cross beam on under the roof.
