Torque converter shutter... I thought
1999 Cherokee XJ 4.0 I6 4X4... I have been enduring for the past few months what I had decided was a shutter caused by the torque converter. Ie at idle in drive or reverse there would be a rythmic shake and a somewhat hollow knock in the bell housing area.... This past weekend it was nice enough outside that I decided to change the oil and also tighten the serpentine belt that had been giving me short squeals at first start on cold mornings but that I had not bothered with because of the cold and the need to pull the efan to make the adjustment.... I had decided that on the next warm day I would attempt the flex plate bolt tightening regimen to see if the shutter could be quieted. What I have notice since the oil change and belt tightening however is that he shutter is no longer present. While I am pleased by this, am also a bit perplexed by it. I am not an expert by any stretch... More of a YouTube mechanic would be an apt description but I am looking for thoughts in order to satisfy my curiosity.
