Im looking for a place to buy steel rockers locally. Anyone know of a good place around chicago? I have contacted a couple steel companies near me and so far amd either they dont have rectangle steel or they don't sell to individuals for that small of a quantity.

I bought a new set from a body shop for $120 ish. They ordered them for me.
All the other pieces that I needed besides rockers I made with a metal brake and some patience.

Did not realize you were looking for modification.

Salvage yard near me has all sorts of heavy steel and the don't mind me digging through looking for steel to use.
My last trip I took a big steel electrical breaker panel box to cut up. Paid $5
Happy hunting!

Just some 2x6 steel from your local shop will do. 3/16ths if you're going to be banging off of em

A 2x6 "high clearance" rocker required me to trim the bottom of my doors.

I don't mind but that idea seems to bother some people.

On my brothers jeep he didn't want to do that. I welded a 2x4 in place and then a 2x6 under that.

Then made a sidestep for him. Looks awesome and they work awesome.

You don't have to trim the doors...just mount it a little lower or at a slight angle if you want to avoid trimming the door. But of course if you've already done it then I reckon it's a bit difficult to change

Then it's not "high clearance". Haha.

If I were to weld it at a slight angle I'd never be able to forgive myself. It would drive me insane.

I agree. I guess I like to think of it as high-clearance since it still replaces the rocker, instead of adding an extra layer under it as most aftermarket sliders do. I've seen where people have done it at an angle for water drainage purposes, but I think I would be least concerned about that with everything properly prepped and bedlined.
