Thoughts on Lifts.
I was wanting to get some thoughts of expirenced wheelers on lifts before I just hopped into a Rough country lift. I dont have much of a wallet but I want to lift my Xj and I keep seeing people down talk RC lifts. Right now its mostly a daily driver but I want to toy around in it as well. Im looking to get a 6 inch long arm kit just need some expert thoughts.

Iron rock. That's my dream lift. People bash rough country Cuz their bushings are hard and sometimes they wear out rather fast. I ran a 3 inch rough country lift for a year and had no complaints but now am running a 4 inch pro comp lift

Quality of the springs are a major issue with any lift the majority are made in China and the quality is questionable. One company has all made in NA leafs/coils. His package of full leafs/choice of coils/shocks/all hardware is included for $438 the only thing not included is an Adj. Track Bar which is needed.
Don't be tempted to buy a cheap AAL lift or blocks, spacers. They will cost you too much in the long run.

You must have the part about not having a lot of money to spend, have you did a 6" lift of any kind lately?? If not you need a high credit line on that credit card or 2 to do it properly! Many come on here after just looking at the price of the lift kit and think that all they need. Where in real life that's the small part of a lift cost.

Here's a list of what's needed to do it PROPERLY...
So you need to ask yourself, what kind of wheeling do you do? At 6", you'll need to get bigger tires, bigger tires mean gears, you'll need to upgrade your track bar, your steering, brake lines...you get the idea. For every inch you go up, the price goes up as well. You'd be surprised at what a stock XJ can do. I suggest take it out in stock form, and wheel it. See what the terrain in your area is like, and judge what you need from that, as well as your driving style. Even a mild lift can make a world of difference. I've seen some stock XJ's kill it offroad.

I love how the 5.5 inch and 6.5 inch parts of that chart just stopped getting detailed LOL. It's like whoever made that chart just got lazy.
Anywho..
If budgeting is a problem, go Rough Country.
I personally recommend one like BDS if you want a long arm because you just can't match the on-road stability of a 4-link.

OP, when you do decide to buy a kit, make sure it's complete, whether or not you piece it together or buy one with most of what's needed. Check out Serious Offroad's long arm kit, has most everything you need to do it right, and Frank is a stellar guy to deal with.
I was going to buy his LA kit, but found a smoking deal on a RK 3 link on CL. Couldn't pass it up. It has yet to be installed, as I am still buying parts, but now have most everything needed, including uniframe reinforcement. Just need to get some small odds and ends, springs front and rear, and shocks.

If you don't have a fat wallet don't go long arm or 6.5 for that matter. That size lift needs alot of love in different areas as others have said it is expensive probably around $2-3k. Do you just want the look of the 6.5 lift with mild weekend wheeling or will you actually be needing the long arms to do some ridiculous rock crawling? I suggest going 4.5 short arms that's a perfect wheeling height. I've wheeled a xj on 6.5 and it's scary lol. I also recommend iron rock offroad solid lifts

4.5" Rough Country Suspension on mine, don't regret it a min. I would love to have a well built long arm set up, but my wallet isn't big enough and it spends as much time on the road as the trail. My Rough Country lift handles well on the street as well as the trail. I have no complaints.

My point is higher then 3 maybe 4 inches things start to get pricey like a sye and upgrading the steering.A kit like this http://www.seriousoffroadproducts.co...-NP231J-T-case has everything to lift it but for the steering.

Then you gotta have gears so might as well install lockers at the same time labors the same. The list is long as only those who have done it correctly will know.
