I tried to find the thread where the guy used X-spanding foam to seal the rear cubby area & bolted the sub to a board & mod'ed the cover & replaced it.
Little help.
Little help.

I used it also to seal the tail light opening ... you don't want to put that expanding stuff in there. I preferred having something I can remove if I needed to.
Some pics ... but before the structural foam was added. I used polyfill to support the upholstery. Hope these help.

These are pretty old pics ... I have tweaked the enclosure a bit since then, but I might be able to answer questions for you. I used 3/4" medium density fiberboard.

I agree with station wagon, Ive been a audio competitor for a couple years now ( have had 4 15s 4 18s etc) alot of people want to use the foam but it MESSES up some interior and is messy, i would try to stay away from it..... polyfill.... and some dynamat or stinger road kill it also so you can get a good clean surface.... Also please to not try to stuff a sub that needs alot of airspace into that little spot

Yes, just the way you see it. It's a long throw woofer as you can see from the size of the foam, so it booms even in open air. But only inside. I love that the whole neighborhood can't hear my music over my exhaust, lolz!

Thank you all for the input.I was under the impression that the foam displaced water & wouldn't promote rust.I will use the dynamat or similar product.
The "pleather" looks really nice.
I plan on running a 10 in. sub.,either sealed or free air, which ever sounds better.
Thanks again.
If someone can think of a better idea I want to hear about it,please.
A box is more work but I think worth it (in the cubby,of course).

When I first did the mod I got the idea from someone on JeepsUnlimited forum. I didn't know how to "build" anything and I doubt I could have put a real box together, LOL. An enclosed box might have been better, heck would have been better, but since then I have re-opened it & completely sealed all the pillars. So it's basically a box now flanked by sheet metal on the back. Works for me - don't need nothing fancier!

Not sure if you were referring to my pics but that is quite hidden. I have a stock cargo shade that covers everything. As far as being protected - look at the grill. That is one tough sucker. Have had that sub in there for about 6 years with only a small scratch on the grill. And I carry a lot of junk including spare axle shafts, drive shafts, fluids etc.
