I've got hickory, mesquite, and applewood logs/chips in the garage. I use charcoal to get a good ember base established. Use wood the rest of the time. Haven't tried oak yet, it's on my list of woods I'd like to try.

Cold smoked some hard boiled eggs the other day using applewood, then made deviled eggs out of them...they were amazing

Yep.

Don't use the oak as a flavoring chip. Make your fire out of it. You'll be glad you did.


I tried cherry one time. Nada. Might as well have used charcoal. Go figure.

So...I got good news yesterday. I'm done with dialysis!

I go in Tuesday for a final blood draw, then meet with the doctor Wednesday to schedule the removal of the catheter hanging out of my chest. Best birthday present ever,😄
