I was looking at your passenger side rocker and said thats not that its just a small hole beside the door and then I realized that there wasnt a rocker just the bottom of the door. Actually mine did the same thing but I ripped it out and riveted aluminum to the remaining sheet metal and used a little bondo. Whats funny is the drivers side is fine just a little surface rust.

For thin gauge metal I always use Oxy-Act because it offers total control.

Just something to consider:

Sometimes it's a good idea to consider a rust free body and make a conversion. I restored my 67 Chevelle and because I was so emotionally attached to the original body I decided to fix the rust etc. In the end it cost me an absolute ton of money, agony, and some very serious time. It's kind of like one thing leads to another.

My trunk had a few bad spots and next thing you know I'm cutting out the trunk and replacing the whole rear end. All I'm saying is just sit back and really take a look at what you got and be careful not to cut out too much.

My Chevelle is a perfect restoration, but what most people don't see is it took 3 years of replacing metal and I had many chances to buy a rust free body but didn't. If I had to do it again I would of bought a southern body, painted it, and just had fun.

Just trying to share an experience of mine so your better armed with information.

Mike

yeah im on the verge of scrapping it. I have people left and right posting notes on it wanting to scrap. The only valuable part of it is the tires and brakes which were done not long ago

I know what your going through and I completely understand! Just don't get emotionally bonded to it. Consider it a good parts truck and find yourself a great buy. After buying mine I'm running into all sorts of them for sale for pretty cheap, it's funny how that works out.

It's always a tough call on what to do with certain vehicles. Fortunately XJ's can be had for a reasonable amount of money with a little patience and research. To buy a body and put the parts on it may not be a bad idea. Just keep your options open.

I called a guy 2 days ago that had one for 1,200 and it was rust free, he sold it quick, but that"s the type of stuff I'm running into now. The more time I spend with XJ's the more they seem to pop-up.

I think you'll thank yourself in the summer when you'll be driving instead of welding up that "Flintstone Spec" Wreck!
I totally understant that you can get attached to a vehicle, but sometimes you've just got to let go!
