Some boards have a way to "like" a post or "thank" someone for it, so he probably thought he was thanking the guy who posted that link rather than reporting a problem.

Ahh yea. Like "rep points". Almost all the bodybuilding forums have them.

Lol. Not missing much. There are a few helpful/knowledgeable threads on them but 90% of them are "I cant loose weight" (still eating Doritos every night), "my wife hates me" or "I don't grow!" (working out twice per week).

I haven't frequented them in quite some time but the concept is cool. You get points for correct/helpful information and can get points taken away for being wrong. Granted there are some inherent problems (opinion) but it works itself out and you can kind of tell who knows their stuff.

You would have like 10.5 million rep points probably lol. Since I like IRO/taller rigs, Ide probably be negative

The other car forum I frequent is simpler. If you like a post, you hit the "Thanks" button. Underneath the post, it says, "The Following Users Say Thank You For This Useful Post."

<-- Over there to the left where it says "Posts" on this board, that board also lists how many times you have been thanked and how many times you have thanked other people.

We also have a trader rating system for the marketplace on that board, kind of a scaled down version of eBay feedback. If you buy something from another member on the board, you can rate the experience. Your trader rating also shows up over on the left under your user name.

There have been times on this board when I've gotten confused because I couldn't find the "Thanks" button for a post someone had made. That's why I thought OP must have hit the report button when the guy he was reporting actually helped him.
