Default put my canyon wheels on (xj)

installed some canyon wheels on the ole xj last night. they aren't in terrible shape. there is only one small gouge on one of the 4, but they do appear to need scrubbed and recleared. overall I am very happy with them. I think a wider tire (225/75 on it now) would improve the cosmetic appeal, but I don't want a huge tire so we will see. i'll wait until I get the new leafs under it to determine tire size. it had stock repainted steel wheels with new center caps on it before. I like the new look. it had about 300lbs of crap in it at the time of these pictures. it sits a little lower in the back, but doesn't always look like it does in those pics. EDIT: something I want to mention, if you have done the zj rear disc swap and want to use these wheels, I'd highly suggest getting longer wheel studs if you haven't already. I am using stock studs and I'm not terribly comfortable with them. if I did anything but pound pavement I'd change them.

thanks guys. the pics do it a lot of justice. it's not in near as good of shape as they project. I am wanting to clean the inside of the wheels thoroughly. I'm thinking I will install longer wheel studs at the same time.

Is the mounting surface for the canyons that much thicker than any other alloys?

The studs are the same length regardless of wheel type(aloy or steel). Hell they are the same wheel studs that the Wrangler uses as well as the Grand Cherokee... no need to change them out at all.

i disagree with this. there isn't a lot of lugnut/stud contact, a solid 5 maybe 5.5 threads.

He has rear disc brakes on an XJ!!! That's why he needs the longer studs.

I've converted an XJ to ZJ rear discs, with Canyon wheels, and yes indeed, no doubt in my mind, the longer studs are needed. There is so little thread available, I wouldn't drive mine without changing the studs first.

for the record I have driven a couple hundred miles since then with no ill effects. I agree it needs longer studs.

I floored it a lot, I'm not too worried about the studs, but will def replace them soon.

A couple hundred miles is no indication of the future.

Did you torque the lug nuts?

Do you know the formula for how much stud should be threaded into the nut versus the diameter of the stud?

Do you care about the health and safety or you, your family, and other motorists?

yeah i torqued the lugnuts. I feel that if I've floored it from a dead stop 10 times and it hasn't broke yet that it'll be ok. I don't know the thread/diameter/weight/rotation/inflation/conversation/motivation/etc conversions, but I'm confident it won't kill anyone in the mean time. I've seen vehicles driven on less haha
