Default Full coverage or just liability for 95xj?

Hey all - first post - literally driving to buy my first XJ! Not super modified, $2500. Called my insurance and they said it would be another $500 a year for full coverage.....for a 25-year old vehicle with 292k!!! Ridiculous. It won't be a daily driver except maybe once or twice a month - mostly just a woods toy. Would you all just do liability?? Should I do full coverage?

Thanks a lot - really looking forward to getting to know this forum!!

If it's not seeing the road too often I'd just go with liability. I'm pretty sure that's what most of us are carrying. The good thing about these Jeeps is for that $500 you can find a parts Jeep if it were ever needed to fix any damage.

In your situation I would do liability. However I once had a beautiful lifted 97 XJ that was stolen while I was at work. After three days the thief t-boned another jeep and took off running on foot and was never caught. My XJ was completely totaled. I had full coverage (because my wife drove it more than I did) and the insurance company ended up paying me slightly more than the Jeep was worth. So in my opinion if its a daily driver it's probably worth getting full coverage. Unfortunately I learned the hard way that Jeeps are super easy to steal. Case in point - I now have two Jeeps and one key works for both Jeeps.....

On the topic of stolen vehicles, I think a kill switch is a quick and very valuable thing to do.

I pay a little over $500 a year with liability and glass. No deductible on glass.
And I am over 62, told them I drive 5K a year (which is a lie cause it is more like 3K), and live
a 1/2 mile from my current 4 day a week part time job. Is the only vehicle I own.
And feel I pay just a little to much. But what are you going to do. LOL.
You have to make sure that they know that this Jeep will only be driven a few times a month.
I believe they refer to that as a pleasure vehicle. Not a DD.
I would consider liability with glass. Think they call that comprehensive.
With a small or no deductible on glass.
And be aware if there are going to be long periods of time that you will not drive the Jeep
you can put it in what they call storage. I did that once with a vehicle, was a second car, and
it cost me $30 for 6 months. In my state you get to keep your plates and they can't hassle you
for having a vehicle that is registered but not insured. Also if you need to get it back on the road
all it takes is one phone call to your agent.

I have never had full coverage on any vehicle.

I have full coverage on my 01. Being that we only have the two vehicles, I opted to pay $30 more a month. Hopefully if something happened insurance would hook me up to replace it.

Well I FINALLY got my insurance agent on the phone. I've already got the house and my 2013 Sierra insured for $1200/year. Hard to believe but adding full coverage on a 25 year old jeep with 292k on it would be SIX HUNDRED extra a year - forget it. Comprehensive was about 400, liability only 300something, so I went with comprehensive. Still seems like a lot though????

What the heck is full coverage!? Jk, but I am with 00t444ee on this one - I have liability on two vehicles and liability + comprehensive on another one. I pay $1,400 a year for all three. When I owned a house, I bundled it all together to get a nice little discount.

To me, full coverage is a waste of money on any vehicle that you paid less than $10k for.

Yes, it seems like a lot, and it's a bit confusing to me. How are you defining "full coverage" vs. "comprehensive"?

You know I'm already a little fuzzy on the details - definitely included glass and some other stuff - seemed worth the slight increase over just liability - I might change my mind!!!
