Default Daily Driver?

Okay, so there has to have been a post like this in the past, but for the life of me I can't find it anywhere. So I'm going to start a new one.

I drive home from work during morning rush hour, so I presume that most of the cars on the road at that time are being driven TO work, and are therefore daily drivers. The other day, while I was making my thirty minute commute, I started to notice a strangely large number of XJ's being driven. I counted up to 17 in a twenty minute period, before I realized that the giant spider on my windshield was actually inside of the car and my subsequent screaming like a child made me lose count.

It made me think, though. Considering that even the newest XJ is eleven years old, and many of them have preposterous amounts of miles on them, I was curious how many of us actually use our XJ's as daily drivers?

So? Who here uses theirs as a daily commuter?

I daily drive mine, just around town an not too far..
I've always wondered that as well.. How come my jeep along with everyone else on this forum seems to have to work on their xj constantly yet random people you see driving their xjs don't really seem like they'd be working on it all the time.. Just like for them owning an xj is just like having another car.. I don't know maybe i'm crazy and it's just cause my jeep is 22 years old hahah

Exactly! Like I said, even the newest XJs are "old", at least as far as American car buying trends today seem to go. Nothing's built to last more than five years these days, and consumers seem to adhere to that principle. My XJ is 19 years old... and thinking back, when I've had other cars that were 19 years old, I can't recall ever seeing as many of them on the road as I do with the XJs.

I want to stop some of these people I see just driving it like any other car, and ask why they didn't go for something more fuel efficient, and if I can listen to the engine run, and ask about noises while driving... just to see if they've got an engine that sounds like a diesel, or the same nautically-themed creaks and groans that mine's got.

Mine is a daily driver. I never saw the point in owning a car that I'm not going to drive... if someone handed me a pristine, zero-mileage Grand National, I'd probably still take it to work and back. I put probably between 300 and 400 miles on the Jeep per week commuting, or more if the girlfriend and I take a trip to Maryland or something. I don't do any heavy off-roading, because I'm not into stuff like rock crawling or mudding (I saw a tiny frog jump into a puddle I was about to drive through, too, so now I can't even splash through puddles anymore without feeling bad), but I do take it out on the trails through the pine barrens any chance I get... trails that are apparently not that difficult, considering I got lapped by a Grand Am back there the other day.

My is a DD. But I don't use it all the time. (Becuase of the bad gas mileage issue.) I usually have some form of a four banger beater I use for a work vehical. I use the XJ for hunting, camping, dog hauler, snowy weather, etc. etc. I have owned it for 4 years and only put on 6,000 miles. So right now it is at 70,000 miles. And I have had to fix a few things on it, due to it's age mostly. Attachment 116926

mine is for now.
wifey parents gave us their mini van/dog transporter so we use that if we're going out together somewhere, or on a longer trip if not jeep related.

otherwise, we both have small lifted tj's on 33's as our daily drivers. but they're off the road to save on insurance for now.

but, if it's a nice day, i will take the ****** to work.
