Default Broken Bolt???

I pulled a 4.0 out of a bone stock 94 XJ. By the bolts I turned and the ones I broke I'd bet my torque wrench it's never been out. So how's it that the lower rear exhaust manifold bolt is broken of clean and flush with the mating surface of the head?

Yeah, I'm good that way. Like I can't remember the last time I dropped a bolt and it didn't roll under the middle of the car. :-)

but seriously is there a possibility that there's something more going on before I drop this thing in another car?

No. Very common failure of the exhaust manifold studs.

Exhaust bolts always break on everything. From rust heat and engine vibrations its gonna happen.

If the broken part of the bolt was rusted like the metal around it its been broke a long time.
