Default Jeep Cherokee 94 ECU is broken

Hello,

my ecu in my jeep cherokee 94 isn't working any longer. I need a new one, the unit number on my old broken ecu is 56027891, I'm trying to buy an ecu with the same number, but i guess that won't happen.

So I have several questions:

What is the purpose of the unit number on the ECU?

If i buy an identical ecu, but different number, how do I get to work in my car?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, GREETINGS FROM NORWAY.

I called salvage yards all across town until I found a place that had exact year and model XJ. Simply bought it, then installed. Has run perfect ever since. Not sure if that's viable option for you.

Tricky part is finding one. Refurbished ECMs are out there, but cost a lot of money & receive mixed results.

Best of luck.

Please don't put yourself through the torture of trying to get a junkyard PCM to work.

Contact these folks:

Same people. They have a (lame) website and they sell on eBay, and they are GREAT. Many people on this forum have used them, and I have never seen a complaint yet.

May I ask how do you know the ecu is faulty?
