Masking tape?? Think elmers glue should do the trick

But too the OP id suggest trying to make a bracket from metal amd a bolt

Definatly the long handle spade, I carry a shorty in the back, tied down good, no bungie!
When your realy in it deep, you will appreciate that long handle.
