best shovel for mounting on roof rack?

Default best shovel for mounting on roof rack?

Hey guys what shovels do you guys use for offroading? I want to mount it in the the roof rack.

Yep like $5 at harbor freight. I also use bungle cords to tie it down

i got a cheap one from harbor freight anyone have any ideas on how to hold it on my yakima rack?

i wouldn't use a bungy chord.
i would at least use a couple muffler clamps.

If you have a rack on the top you could try drilling a hole through the front and back one and then put a bolt through the handle (if its wood) and the just put the bolt through the hole in the rack on the top and then just screw a nut on the other side of it. Real simple!

Also make sure you get one with that specifically says it can be used for prying cause a lot of times shovels get used for other stuff than what you plan on

Long handle spade (flat tip) with a wood handle (fiberglass breaks easily). Treat the handle so the weather doesn't kill it.
When I had my roof rack I used a couple of brass brackets and bolts/washers/nuts to sandwich the shovel between the brackets. Got 'em from Home Depot in the electrical section. They have 4 holes and use 1/2" bolts (whatever length you want).

velcro works pretty well and stands up to weather better than a bungie cord.

Good cheap solution, I use Velcro to hold my cb aerial down when I'm not using it!
