Default Ammo can locking center console write up

So I was looking at tuffy products for a locking center console for security when I am doorless, I couldnt even justify thinking about spending that kind of money so it was off to the surplus store. Bought an ammo can for 14$, and its almost the exact size of the center console.

First, remove your console lid.

Next, cut the back of the console so its flush with the bottom of the console, and you should end up with this:

Next, cut the ammo can to fit over the e-brake hump inside of the consoleName: IMAG0473.jpg

dry fit it in the console, and if its good, dont mount it yet!

Now, get a simple tumbler lock and key from lowes, like this:

Drill out the ammo can lid, and install the lock.

Now, figure out something for the lock to catch on, I used a metal L bracket, lined it up with the lock, and drilled it into the side:Name: IMAG0475.jpg

I secured it with a bolt, and checked to see if the lock caught on it, this step will take you a while but dont give up!

Now, re-attach the center console lid on the top of the ammo can, and it will still go up and down but if a thief sees whats underneath the armrest they will probably not try lol.Name: IMAG0472.jpg

And lastly, run some sheet metal self tapper screws threw the bottom of the ammo can into the bottom of the center console, just to be safe. I used six.
Here is a shot of it locked, you still use the lock on the front of the can for added stability.

Well thats it, your armrest is now a comfy 3" higher, and your stuff will be a bit more safe, even if youre not doorless its still a good upgrade I think. Let me know if you have any other questions and happy jeeping!

I spliced in some speakers off of the door speakers and cut them into my dash, its a little time consuming but it works. So when the doors are on, all four are on in the front and with the doors off the two in the dash do decent.

Thanks man, its not hard honestly, the hardest part is the lock lining up. You could cut it down 2-3" and have it level, sneaky style if you want thats what I was gonna do until I sat down and leaned on it lol
