91 jeep and title question
Hello everyone. First post. I found a 91 jeep Cherokee for sale on Craigslist. The guy wants $900. Going to check it out tomorrow. The guy says it has a rebuilt motor. Where I got lost is when he said it has a clean title but has a note on it that the odometer is not correct because of the rebuilt engine. Is that true? Not too knowledgable about titles lol. But for $900, it's a perfect project vehicle. I just don't want to have trouble registering it. Thank you.

Sounds like BS to me.
Motors have nothing to do with titles.
Go look, but be aware.

All he is saying is that the mileage of the motor and jeep will not match.
Mileage of the jeep hasn't changed just the motor, nothing to worry about.

see all I really know about titles is to make sure they are clean and free of liens. When he said their is a note about the odometer being incorrect I was thrown for a loop. How does a rebuilt motor affect the odometer reading and the title? Cruiser above says it's B'S. Kind of what I thought but wasn't sure. He says it's reading 171k and some change right now.

Most of the time it's due to a gauge cluster (odometer specifically) being switched out for a new one, either due to orig. one failed or owner wanted a different cluster. That would be a valid reason for a notation on the title.
*The fact that it's noted on the title, does mean that it has been officially recorded that there was some sort of a swap. It may just not say why.
The ones that aren't officially listed are the real ones you have to worry about.... for fraud.

Depending on the state the "not actual mileage" thing can mean a million things, and nothing at all to get excited about with a 1991 vehicle. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Might use it to get him down a bit more, but that's it.
