Salvage Title Question
Ok I have a cherokee that I bought that I couldn't get the title for. I got a bill of sale for it though from the owners. It was registered in NY but i brought it back to NJ. Would I be able to go through NJs salvage title examination or will I have to go through NYs? Also can I get a salvage title for it if it wasn't totaled but had some engine problems? And I bought it for $1 will I have to pay the vehicles sales tax even though I bought it and it wasn't given to me?

I dont know about NJ but in MI you would have to pay the sales tax and if im correct you should be able to get a salvage title for it in NJ and not have to deal with NY BUT like i said I'm from MI so I dont quite know...... Good luck

In California you can get a lein sale title, and you would only have to pay tax on what you purchased the vehicle for. Look up the NJ DMV on line, there should be some info for you there.
