lol I wheel like I don't care about the body. Glenn wheels like he doesn't care about life. But he makes it thru and his Jeep doesn't fall apart. I swear is wishes he lived in the desert for Jeep speed.

I was out this weekend on a blue trail at Rausch Creek and my roof rack hit a tree and it scraped it and bent the mounting brackets a little, I build mine on a budget so my rack it built out of EMT if it was PVC I would of been picking up pieces. I dont wheel hard either or "hardcore" but **** happens I rather be prepared then cheap out to save some money and have something break and cost me more money. Just my 2 cents

There is a flaw in some of your thinking.
No one here has seen the rack first hand, we don't know how robust or jankey this thing is.
What we do know is it's made of PVC pipe, which I can only assume might possibly flex on some of the impacts were talking about, since plastic is flexible.
We also know that he throws a bit of lightweight camping gear up there, the OP said he used it before posting to see how/if it would work!
No one here is in a position to say if this thing is a huge turd or not.
Where I like to hang out is the High Sierra mountains. The trails and fire roads traveled generally don't have low hanging branches because the are lined with Redwoods and Sequoia trees! So you might be able to get away with a rack like this.
Its not even that much cheaper, I believe I have about the same amount of $ in my EMT rack.
I personally don't think it's "hardcore" to drive my jeep into low hanging branches

It wouldn't last 5 minutes around here. You have to drive thru low hanging branches or just turn around...
Do you have wind in the desert? Do you drive the Jeep faster than 35 mph?

i never said driving your jeep into branches is hardcore, hell i do that very often. im just saying that some people don't need there equipment to be bomb proof. others do. if the rack will work well for the dude then so be it. i could see it being fine out in a desert, or even around here. Not Rausch Creek worthy im sure but backroad trails? maybe.
PVC is flexible, not very but it has some give. if he busts a piece, he can replace it quickly and easily. if he destroys it, then he's learned a lesson. come on, how did we all get where we're at now? by doing everything perfect the first time? nope. by messing up and learning from our mistakes.
just because it may not work for you doesn't mean it won't work for him.
i rode with a guy the other day who if he had a roof rack, steel, pvc, wood, it doesn't matter, would've DESTROYED it in about 10mins on the first trail. i consider him a pretty hardcore wheeler, you may not.
and being ''cheap'' does not mean your not prepared. your ''cheap'' may not be his cheap.
and Gary is right. we DON'T know anything other than its PVC. so we can only speculate and assume. which does no good.

Just seams lame to me. but Thats why I don't have it! If it work for the OP great... but I think the EMT racks are wierd too....
Should I make a foam rack so maybe it can help me float befor I max out my snorkle?
I agree with what you have said, but don't understand taking a step back and making the same mistakes again... lol Pvc roof rack just seams foolish. good luck with a highift, going over any rough terain will max out the "flex" of the rack on its own, let alone any other gear...
